Suggestion
My other concern would be the speedo reading, unless you are prepared to change the tyres to rubber bands to maintain the correct reading.

Suggestion
You can run 235 quite easily on a Turbo/4S, you might get a bit of rubbing on full lock with increased -ve camber.

Suggestion
Personally I swap them for a wide-bodied set if possible as you're more than likely going to run into serious balance issues.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
I am trying to put orginal 19" Porsche Turbo alloy wheels for a 997 Turbo on the 996 Carrera 4S - the mechanic says I need spacers because the 997 Turbo wheels are too wide.
Has anyone got any experience of doing this.
I need to know urgently as it is for a present before my son's birthday in two weeks.
Thanks
M

you may need to check the offsets to as they may be different but your c4s wheel will either be 10 or 11 j wide you need to check what the turbo wheel are if the offsets are the same..
One post in the right section please!
BTW, welcome!
997 Turbo
- Fronts: 19x8.5 55mm Offset- 235/35/19
- Rears: 19x11 51mm Offset- 305/30/19
996 4S
- Fronts: 18x8 50mm Offset- 225/40/18
- Rears: 18x11 45mm Offset- 295/30/18
You'll need 5mm spacers on the front and 6mm on the rear....achievable, just about!
You can run 235 quite easily on a Turbo/4S, you might get a bit of rubbing on full lock with increased -ve camber.
My other concern would be the speedo reading, unless you are prepared to change the tyres to rubber bands to maintain the correct reading.
the spacing is to correct the offset, ie where the centreline should be. The additional width will be even, each side of the centreline, so the actual width has no bearing on offset.
The details of my turbo wheels are
The details on my turbo rims say:
Front 8x19 ET57
Rear 11x19 ET67
I have the old 996 18" Turbo wheels on my C4S 996
On this basis if i assume that my current rims are:
Front 18x8 50
Rear 18x11 45
Then I would need an offset of
Front 7mm
Rear 22mm
Is this even possible for a 996??? Would it not graze against the outer arch and the wheels stick out? Will I get problems with juddering? positve camber? Is it dangerous to put the spacers on like this
Re: The details of my turbo wheels are
Those are narrow-body wheels you are putting on a wide-bodied car. Personally I swap them for a wide-bodied set if possible as you're more than likely going to run into serious balance issues.
7mm spacer might allow a rim to be mounted but it's pretty close to the limit of a standard spacer ie. shim of metal, 22mm spacers will more than likely have a second set of bolts and a milled spacer with a rim mounting groove.
The cost of the shims is likely to upwards of £200 as you'll need new wheel bolts etc.
Confirmatorty questions
Thanks to all of you guys you have managed to get me up the curve - you guys know it all - I love this site :
In response to the question this is the quote:
"These are the wheels of the P97Turbo but in the sizes and offsets to be used on the P97 C2 and C4
Front : 8x19 ET57
Rear C2/C2S: 11x19 ET67
Rear C4/&S : 11x19 ET51"
It looks as though I have the Turbos for the C2S and not the C4S therefore I will need to get the offset for the C2S -therefore ET67 - I'm assuming this is still possible with the spacers and the fact that I have a C2S wheel offset for a C4S offset is not a big deal.
What are these balancing issues that one gentlemen mentions - what sort of serious implications can that have
Re: Confirmatorty questions
With using 'cheaper' spacers and not having sufficient hub mounting you will have serious wheel balancing issues as the rim cannot be mounted securely.
