Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I replaced the PCM1 with a Kenwood dnx7220 and am very pleased with it.

it uses the garmin unit which is heaps better than anything else I've seen or used including tom tom, Porsche and BMW (becker I think).

Suggestion
The pioneer is more expensive unless you go for the unit which needs you to run off a CD - rubbish solution in my opinion as its slow to use and stops you running a cd unless you've got an autochanger - more money again.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking to get a 996 but seems like the sat nav is not all that common. Taking into account that the 996s were from early 2000s, how are the original sat navs? Are they just crap and should go for a 3rd party?
Searching for one without sat nav would increase the number of car choices but would it spoil the "look"? Does anyone have pics of 3rd party sat navs in operation?
Also, what's the likely impact of sat nav on resale prices?
Satnav is more desirable, like with any other prestige car. I wouldn't say it will hugely affect the price just make it easier to sell.
There's lots of threads on this topic, so have a search around.
There's an after market picture in this + costs of retro-fitting satnav.

Most people on here recommend Pioneer as an aftermarket (double-din), Becker (single-din) or TomTom (stuck on window or mounted next to centre console).
Cheers,

Two issues- if you go for an early car (i.e. inc 2002) you have no MOST bus (whatever that is- something to do with various bits of the car communicating). Not having MOST is a good thing as it means you can easily upgrade the audio. The downside is that you will get PCM1 if you have factory nav, which is a bit vintage. You can no longer get Porsche discs, but some lot have cracked the code meaning that you can get modified and up to date Vauxhall nav discs.
Later cars have PCM 2, which is frankly still a bit last season, and it will have MOST. The plus side is that the nav screen looks nice, and buyers like it for some misguided reason.
Personally, I'd go quality aftermarket- you can then get TMC, touch screen, iPod etc. You will pay a little more for a PCM equipped car, so what you save can do toward the audio upgrade.
I installed the Kenwood double din unit as it has a better satnav than pioneer. it uses the garmin unit which is heaps better than anything else I've seen or used including tom tom, Porsche and BMW (becker I think). The pioneer is more expensive unless you go for the unit which needs you to run off a CD - rubbish solution in my opinion as its slow to use and stops you running a cd unless you've got an autochanger - more money again.
Kenwood will give you all the options you need including touch screen, bluetooth, Ipod, camera, tv, video etc etc.
