Think I can safely say it's definitely not MOST as I've just fitted a Becker Grand Prix and am pleased to say it seems to be working perfectly with both the amp and my CD autochanger!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hi I tried mine in the grill - didn't work too well, I have mine positioned at the top of the a pillar now, its fairly simple to route, 10 min job.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all, Have finally got hold of my first 911 (a grey 2002 Carrera 2) and after spending a fair amount of time searching for info on my stereo I'm still non the wiser about how easily I can upgrade it (preferably to something ipod compatible). As I said it's a 2002 car, which has the MDR-32 minidisc option and the BOSE sound upgrade with 6 disc CD changer and amp. I haven't been able to find much out about this minidisc version so was wondering what the equivalent 'CDR' version was and whether this was MOST or not. The autochanger is a Becker Silverstone 2660 if that helps. Here are some pics: Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers, Simon

POST 2Original post

No to MOST. I'd check the build date of your car, before September and you'll have a non-MOST car.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The car was delivered to its first owner in June 2002. So if it isn't MOST would I be able to do a straight swap with a new Becker head unit? Would this be a problem with the amp? Sorry for my ignorance!

POST 4Original post

Yes! No need to apologise! Many on here have gone with the various Becker sat-navs, there are a few little gotchas with the straight swap but do a search here and you should find them. We're here to help and don't be afraid to ask! BTW welcome on board!!!!!

POST 5Original post

I'll second the welcome and ....... it has been talked about on a number of threads!! Try searching through them .. lots of photos and advice on options. The "to do's and "not to do's"

POST 6Original post

Easy swop from the MDr32 to a Becker pro sat nav if the car has a sound pack, i.e front door speakers, you have to fit a cut 2 wires on the wiring harness, to provide a poer feed to the amplifier that feeds the door speakers, I have the instructions in an old diary, but all you need are a wire cutter a 5 '' length of wire and 4 connectors, If you buy the Becker from Sempal they'll give you the instructions or give me a ring and i'll dig them out for you inc fitting the new unit its a 10 minute job

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the replies. Mark - your advice was particularly useful as I haven't been able to find much mention of the MDR-32. I'm currently considering just going for a Becker Grand Prix as I've already got a TomTom and rarely need to use that so can't really justify the extra expense of the sat nav models. Presumably this would be the same installation-wise? (My car does have the sound pack) Also do you know if the new unit will happily control my autochanger (2660)? Thanks for the offer of instructions - I'll probably buy from Sempal if the prices are reasonable so hopefully won't need to bother you! Regards to all, Simon

POST 8Original post

I don't know if this will help but I was told by the audio specialists that a new cd changer can work with a Porsche original head unit but a new head unit cannot work with an original Porsche cd changer. I have the same setup as yours and just this weekend changed to a really nice head unit with integrated bluetooth, allows me to speak to people whilst driving and sounds out through the speakers. There is a limited choice on what type of head units you can get because the Porsche has its own amp and requires a certain number of pre-outs or something like that as I was being explained to. I have a new head unit but have just disconnected the CD changer in the boot. I could have change the changer for a compatible one for my head unit but didnt bother..

POST 9Original post

+1 Another quick check too see if there are 2 orange fiber connections going into the bottom of the amp, separate to the loom. Its a lot easier if its non most as you'll be able to retain the amp and changer although the latter is going the way of the eight track with the onset of ipods. becker do a few units (grand prix and cascade) that will just plug straight in as do alpine and pioneer for the non oem look. search is your friend on here lots of threads on this subject and general sound upgrades. - Simon

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Think I can safely say it's definitely not MOST as I've just fitted a Becker Grand Prix and am pleased to say it seems to be working perfectly with both the amp and my CD autochanger! Now I've just got to decide where to route the phone mic to and how to get it there! Cheers for all the help. Simon

POST 12Original post

The official microphone holder is the grill on the right hand side of the oval speedo unit (you can see the grill). I've had aftermarket mics installed around the courtesy light in the middle roof lining and between the oval and the drivers A pillar. The space between the oval and A pillar had the best pick up. eg. you couldn't hear the speech above 45-50mph when it was installed in the roof lining.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the microphone advice. Think I'm going to go for the A-Pillar and have read the trim should just pull off - is this correct? Does anyone have any tips on the best way to do this as I'm a bit worried about doing some damage. Where's the best place to pull it from? Cheers, Simon

POST 15Original post

Hi the instrument cluster will have to come out as well as the air vent, then the A pillar panel will just pull away you'll need to do all this to route the cables any way as the instrument cluster us out you may as well position the GPS arial. - Simon
