Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i know 12k a year is considered normal but whats your opinion on buying a 10yr old with 120k on / service history good , ,baring in mind its 1st 911 & its likely to be doing 3/5k a year , what kind of mileage before engine/gearbox overhauls are likely?

POST 2Original post

Hi, Porsche's book at 8k/year, not 12k....so you need to take that into account. There's a few people on here that have had faultless engines up to the mileage your talking about. Porsche warranty engines up to 120k miles, but no more. A new engine is about 6-8k fitted, so you need to consider that as well. I wouldn't consider such a high miler unless it was attractive enough on the £ front, I was going to keep it for the long run and I had enough spare cash to replace the engine (which will invariably go at some point in the future). On the positive side, if it's a high miler then the wear and tear will be reasonable on the rest of the car (assuming it's motorway miles). In summary, I'd consider one if the price point was attractive enough.

I bought my 930, 87 turbo on condition its now done 93000 in twenty years. It had the top end done a few years ago. For me its the every mile is a smile a car is to be driven and enjoy. SEE YA

POST 4Original post

Buy on condition and history. Engines are robust if looked after. At the Silverstone Classic a 911 Club Sport on display , had covered 400K miles with engine rebuild at 280K! Still had original crank, cams in engine. Looked superb, you would be hard pressed to pick it out of line of same age cars with low mileage. Any car that age check for rust
