POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there,My name is Francis. Ive been searching for a white .2 for a while and finally found one few months ago. Since then, Ive been slowly building it into something Ive always envisioned and something a little different. A bit of background on my car journey: Honda was my introduction to the car scene. Then recently dipped my toes into EDM The plan is to build a street car thats also capable on the track. Ive always liked the idea of being able to drive my car to and from the track. My last build kind of got out of hand and turned into more of a track-focused car I ended up hating driving it on the street, even though it was an absolute weapon on track. How I got her Switched to Work Brombacher Added the CSR front lip 991 seats Te on everything Whaletail Renown So heres what I have done so far and the ones I remember atm. - All new suspension front and rear - Tarett rear toe - SPOTfrp whaletail - Numeric SS - 991 sport seats - Ceika coilover - Slotted rotors - CSR front lip - 997.1 airbox 3.6 - Gundo mod with Topgear xpipe - Te37 and work brombacher wheels New .2 side skirt and whaletail getting painted atm, will have car back as soon as this weekend or next. Future mods - Deep pan - UAOS - Better coilover - LSD - Aero/cup front bumper - CSF rads, center too? - IPD and GT3 TB - EL headers - Underdrive pulley

POST 2Original post

Very nice build and love me a white 996! I'm curious about the CSR lip you have on. Is this the vendor you got it from? https://csr-automotive.com/en/ Even with expensive shipping from Germany, it might be cheaper than an OEM piece I need for my Turbo bumper. Porsche is smoking something and the OEM lip is over $600 bucks. CSR option would be more unique and different at 40-50% less.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20477789

Thank you! Yes and shipping cost is about another price of the front lip lol.

POST 4Original post

That's a really nice EK hatch. How far did you mod that, and what did you like and dislike about it?

POST 7Original post

Looks Great!!!! Yes, UAOS and UIDS for your pan! Keep us posted!!

I did b16a with CTR trans, built head, gutted interior, and s2k cluster. Nothing crazy, it was gonna be my budget track car that I didnt even get to enjoy since somebody offered me that I couldnt refuse at that time. I felt everything in that car it was intoxicating, revving to 9k and abusing it was too easy and it takes it all day. Since its gutted, I hated how I smell after driving it lol, the fumes just goes into cabin. It felt like a rocket but we all know theyre slow.

POST 14Original post

Lovely car, exterior mods are nice too, look OEM+ which is good. Sounds like you have a good list of mechanical mods done and in the pipe line. GT3 throttle body is a good gain, not sure about under drive pulley. What would you put this on?

POST 15Original post

Love everything about your car and build so far. The wheel choice is bold in the best way, TEs are some of my favourite. I strongly recommend a GT3 console delete, it makes the interior exponentially nicer both aesthetically and ergonomically. Keep updating with pics and god speed on your build

Congrats on the car. you will have a blast. The 996.2 is an awesome car that loves pulling double duty on the street and track. Before you go any further I would bullet proof the engine first. 1. If you havent already, upgrade your IMSB with the LN Retro or Solution. 2. Refresh your water pump with a new OE water pump. Do this every 5 years or so. 3. For sure, upgrade your AOS to the UAOS with track drain. 4. Yep, upgrade your oil sump to either a 2qt deep sump or better yet, the UIDS. Plenty of other things to talk about that aren't on your list, but the most important thing is to start with bullet proofing the engine first. Pretty easy to do.

POST 18Original post

Wow! Full speed into the madness! Congrats on the buy. Great work on the car. Welcome to the group! Yes, the whites one are the best.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POST 22Original post

Wouldn't do an underdrive pulley, won't make any power and I'd be hesitant to touch anything related to balance or rotation on an m96.

Thank you! Very excited to see how it feels on track, I been ripping it on backroad while we wait for track season. I do have updated an shortblock that got PO installed with paperworks, big single IMS. Water is also done recently, but I do want to upgrade to LN low temp thermo. And yes I want to take care of those first before I track it for peace of mind. I just did coil and plugs recently.

I just noticed you have the double DIN infotainment unit. Is it the PCCM+? In this case @circuit.heart makes a console delete with a cuby for the climate controls that would work for you. Check it out at ArtnD Console Delete . He's an awesome guy working on some cool things for the 996/7.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20478859

Understandable, someone local to me had one and never had issues for years. Ill be tracking the car so itll be living some of its life in the higher RPM and U/D pulley helps your accessories from having issues later. Do you have experience with this mod?

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20478881

its not PCCM, just a Kenwood double din. Ill look into it thanks!

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 20478863

Sounds like you are on top of it. Factory oil quantity is about 8.5 qts. 1. If you add in the UAOS w/track drain. You can run 10.5 qts. 2. If you add a 2 qt deep sump you can run 12.5 qts which is my set-up. All of the extra oil solves for oil pressure stability mitigating oil starvation as well as helps with cooling in a 20-25 min session. If you go longer than 20-25 min, your oil temps will start to swamp your water temps. Which is were the 3rd radiator comes in. If you have the money and want an industrial strength sump, go with the UIDS. IMHO, its the best solution for the track. Keep the thread going! We all love this stuff.

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 20478899

First, welcome and love your C2! I’ve been driving with an FSI underdrive (since JR first offered one) for a few years and several track days…zero issues. No trouble with accessories properly functioning and no impact on engine wear (according to UOA). There’s a small increase in “revi-ness” that I like. Through the years some M96/97 UD pulleys were reportedly cracking/failing due to defects, so, I recco getting one from a reliable source.

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20478965

Thank you! this is what I like to see, actual experience from people who did the mod. Im looking at picking one up from RSS? Are they reliable enough? I read avoid the skeletonized one.

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20478909

I only plan on doing maximum 3 track days a year. I doubt ill be competing. Your setup is plenty enough for what I plan to do, appreciate your help and guidance.

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I forgot I picked up this rear window spoiler, ill try it on when i get the car back and paint match if I like how it looks.

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 20478872

Totally understand. I get many side-eyes when boxes arrive... Separately, I also have the LN Underdrive pulley. It gave a nice bump in response. It's also a touch larger diameter than most underdrive pulleys so you don't run into low voltage problems at idle or low RPM running. It's been on the engine for 2 years/15k miles with no issues.

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20479735

Another awesome option, thanks for sharing!

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If anyone is looking, I got a couple of wheels that I am selling. Both wheels are 18x8 47 18x10 42 same offset. Wont come with tires. DM for more pics! Work Brombacher gold wheels will need refinish since gold is flaking on some areas and pitting on barrels. H222 star wheels fake 3pcs black wheels in great condition no damage on finish and barrels.

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And were back. Front lip and that spoiler on the back window is on.

POST 37Original post

I ended up going for a Sony DSX GS80. Its working out pretty well.

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wife and I went out for a quick roadtrip. Cars and Coffee last weekend. I just did transmission mount I went with Rennline HD mount. Doing trans and engine oil as well. Next up is suspension work, I finally ordered my new coilovers with tarett F&R endlinks. I just need a couple supporting mods to make this reliable at the track. Unpopular opinion, I think 295 tires on Carrera is unnecessary I feel like 275 is plenty enough for the amount of power we have. Whats yall experience?

POST 39Original post

U hope u have another set of wheels/tires for the track because i question a 305 in back sometimes.

POST 40 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20556452

I do have another set of wheels with 295. I guess 275 is a good start since its my first time with this chassis.

POST 41Original post

Not really 275 is a good start for winter driving and need pressure on the ground. In the summer/track u want a wide footprint to midigate the 63% rear weight issue and drive power. I dont know why anyone would handicap themselves out of the gate. At the track i wear the rears 305/245 almost twice as fast because of the dynamics of the 911. I have not seen anyone put 275s on these cars unless they were on 17" rims and use a higher side wall for comfort for bad road. The reality is a 275 will be fine but from the factory the 285/225 stagger was for the 10/8" rims and 295/235 for the 11/8 gt rims.

POST 43Original post

Quotes source post: 20557191

I agree with @De Jeeper to stick with the standard sizes for the track based on the wheel sizes. 225x40/285x30 for 8/10. 235x40/29530 for 8.5/11 For sure, there is always an exception to any rule, but what tire sizes/wheel sizes you can run are all heavily influenced by suspension adjustability and aero. Not to mention that there are plenty of tires available in the standard sizes listed above.

POST 44Original post

Some comments- - IPD- -- Some folks have found the IPD to be a near zero improvement. The 996 engine is so finely balanced that a single "mod" may cancel out something else or need "other mods" for improvement. I'd call Brand Clark at Slakker and/or go look at his video explaining how larger TB systems work and what doesn't work. If/when you look at history of water pump, it is "normal" to replace at 65k miles. It may or may not last longer. Look at records to see what you have. Also, a 20+ year old coolant reservoir tank is very likely going to crack and fail. It is an expensive 996.2 part, but not as high $ as 996.1 for some reason. Replace it along with new cap - and ONLY get OEM Porsche ones. Some folks cast doubt on UIDS, do some research and see what is good/bad about it. Ask De Jeeper about it. Ground clearance is an issue for some. The UAOS with Track Drain has proven to be excellent, no doubts on it. Consider Motul 300V 5W-50 or 15W-50, or Driven DI50 oils for track use. That said, I think the white 996 is great! I wanted a white C4S but could not find one. As a matter of reference, I have only seen 4 or 5 white 996 cars anywhere, even on RL and other places. Great looking, and easy to keep clean. How and what problems if any did you have putting 991 seats in 996? What model seat are they, wiring and stuff like that? Curious, would like to do something similar. Cheers, YMMV

POST 45Original post

Well, how about listening to Brandon Clark for a change instead of ADVERISING BS? Go here: You Tube Look at about 30.42 to 41.01 minutes. No Magic Bolt-On-Fixes. Somewhere else is an IPD review with/without "dimples" and what are results. Anything Brandon Clark (Slakker) says about power increase or improvement-or-Loss is always backed up by their actual DYNO results. I won't argue about a different plenum, but all of the "parts" have to work together. Porsche has proven that again and again. Advertising is just what it is - Sell The Product. Your choice, your wallet.. Do some research before you plunk X-$$ for anything. JMO YMMV
