Suggestion

Given the choice I would like to replace my CDR23 with an Alpine x100 head unit (designed for IPod plus bluetooth) but because I have the fibre optics and 10 speaker Bose system I have been told that the whole thing would need rewired and would cost £800-£1000  Thats unless anyone else knows different?????????

Suggestion

Probably took me about 2 hours - and most of that was fiddling with the clips to remove and then replace the DVD Nav unit.

Suggestion

As I understand it, you don't actually remove the CD changer however the unit uses the cables that the CD changer uses so if you already have the changer it's an easy install as you just switch them to the Mobridge thus leaving the changer redundant.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all I'm new to this site, it's a great find, I've just got a 54 plate 996 C4S, which I LOVE!! Wanted to get a mobridge unit fitted to connect my ipod, mobridge seems to be the unit of choice from reading through previous threads. Just need a couple of bits of advice, what is the best place to purchase the unit and any suggestions on a decent fitter around the Surbiton/Kingston Surrey area. Thanks

POST 2Original post

I bought mine from HigerOctane and fitted myself in the front replacing the CD changer. I'm no expert but (apart from a bit of confusion with connectors) found it a pretty simple job. Probably took me about 2 hours - and most of that was fiddling with the clips to remove and then replace the DVD Nav unit. I imagine fitting it in the car is a little more difficult but I don't find it a problem having it in the front.

POST 4Original post

JZM have quoted me £299 for the Mobridge + 2 hours fitting at £69 per hour + VAT. And as they will do it while I wait, the drive over to Waltham Cross should be worth it for their experience. From what some of you guys are saying though, it sounds like you have to remove the CD changer. Does this mean that the Mobridge replaces it and you are left with just the single CD player in the centre console? If so, I don't think I'll bother. Cheers Clive

POST 5Original post

As I understand it, you don't actually remove the CD changer however the unit uses the cables that the CD changer uses so if you already have the changer it's an easy install as you just switch them to the Mobridge thus leaving the changer redundant. When I spec'd mine, I didnt spec the changer as I knew I would always buy an IPOD kit.

POST 6Original post

That's right - it does replace the CD Changer, though you don't have to remove it (but it does save weight )

POST 7Original post

the IPod connectivity system i use is called IPlug RDS and basically electronically gives an FM signal hard wired to your stereo and the sound quality is MUCH better than the transmitter thingies. This way you can keep the CD changer operational if its important to you. Please help

POST 8Original post

OPC Guildford use Ian Bannings for a lot of work, including after market parking sensors and trackers. They are a very reputable ICE dealer in Guildford and I'd fully recommend them to complete the install.

POST 9Original post

I'd reccommend Cats for Cars in Farnham ( http://www.catsforcars.co.uk/ ) , ask if they have done it before. I may go the same way with mine.

POST 10Original post

Hi Phil I live Kingston/Surbiton border I've got an Alpine Ipod adaptor yours for a few beers if you fancy getting an Alpine head unit However if you go for the unit you mentioned and need a hand fitting it just send me a pm

POST 11Original post

Just spoke with someone at Ian Bannings and they are £40+VAT per hour and estimate 2 hours first time. They haven't fitted one yet but know PCM well. I will e-mail instructions to them to see whether that it still realistic but they confirm they deal with a lot of 911's.

POST 12Original post

Right, thanks for the tip!!! Spoken with Andy at www.ianbannings.com and sent him the instructions supplied. They are familiar with how it all works and were happy to agree a fixed price for me of £100.00+VAT based on 997 with PCM+BOSE but no CD changer. Obviously that might change for different models etc. Booking in for next week, will let you know how I get on!! Very excited!! Jamie

POST 13Original post

Please do Jamie. I'd be really interested to know how the install goes and whether you're pleased with the performance of the Mobridge unit. Ian Bannings look as if they would be about £60 cheaper than JZM and Guildford would be much more convenient for me. Clive

POST 14Original post

I'm going to get mine done as well @ IBs. Did they supply the connector?

POST 15Original post

Hi, Sorry, I meant did the £100 include the iPod connector, but I can see from your answer that this was just for the fitting! Cheers, GD
