Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

would take it to get looked at defo if fans are running diff speeds too
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Car running hot (needle to right of zero on the number 80): I've checked the coolant level (was just above 'min' so topped up a little), Oil level is fine, and I removed a small piece of paper from one radiator (chocolate bar wrapper size), but no change in temp.
Being far too lazy to search the topic, can anyone throw any light on this one?
Car running hot (needle to right of zero on the number 80): I've checked the coolant level (was just above 'min' so topped up a little), Oil level is fine, and I removed a small piece of paper from one radiator (chocolate bar wrapper size), but no change in temp.
Then checked radiators and the left hand foremost radiator is cold (immediately after a 40 mile spirited drive). Embarrassed to admit I don't know whether that is water or oil (looks too big to be an oil cooler and water rad would normally be in front I suspect?)
Obviously a blockage somewhere, but does anyone know where it is likely to be? Is there a common restriction somewhere in the plumbing?
Cheers for any help... :thumb:
you have 2 rads on either side the front one is for the aircon and the rear one is for the cooling
if you look behind each each front wheel towards the front you will see a metal pipe about 2 inch diameter these are coolant pipes, check them for heat
So any idea why the offside one is hot and the nearside one cold? Is that another problem brewing?
Both fans seem to be working, but the nearside one is a lot louder than the offside one.
The temp never goes up to the next mark on the gauge, and actually comes back down almost to normal if I drive reasonably fast in a high gear.
No idea why you'd only have one flowing. It comes out of the engine as a single feed and under the car then splits into two to feed each side. I suppose then its possible one is blocked so the other flows.
Take it to get looked at....
Have to go to Salisbury tomorrow so I'll be driving with fingers crossed I guess :dontknow:
Should the air-con rads be hot or cold?
Just remembered I switched the air-con off to listen to see if the fans were working, so that might explain the different noise from left to right?
Am training at a Land Rover dealer tomorrow, so I might ask them to stick it on a ramp and have a quick look underneath - see if there is anything obvious.
It gets stranger...
This morning, temp went to normal and stayed there for about 20-30 miles, then went up to just on the right hand edge of the zero in '80'. Then the needle stayed over the zero all the way to Salisbury.
Coming home it was the same until I got stuck in traffic on the A34 (wheel came off a trailer behind a 4x4
) Then rose to where it was yesterday and stayed there all the way home.
Fans both running at the same speed and both rads warm this evening (forgot I had switched off the air-con last night
)
Very confused (guess I need to get it on a tester soon)
I'm not understanding the problem? It's not overheating so what is the issue? Mine moves from 80-90 all the time....
Are you saying yours didn't do what it's doing now?
The thing with a Porsche is the needle actually moves unlike every other car where they stay put over a 30 degree range.....
In 3 1/2 years I have never noticed the needle being to the right of the zero of '80' except perhaps briefly during very slow traffic on a very hot day.
Even when I v-maxed it on the Autobahn in 25 degrees of heat it was only a tiny fraction over normal (needle on top of the zero)...
Maybe there is nothing wrong :?:
I would suggest there isn't, but if I was to guess, I'd say it's possible the thermostat is getting tired. 10 years is around the time they start to play up on other cars.... not sure about the porsche but it's something I've been thinking about on my car. I had one that snapped shut years ago and what a pain in the ass that was....
:?
My GT3 runs over the '0 on the 80 ! And never goes under that ?
I never hear the fans kit in, the only time I heard one (from the engine bay) was when the car was having a geo in Germany.. And it came on for about 5 mins!
