Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Update: Replaced O2 sensor, it was the wrong part but in the correct box.
Leading evidence: 'wrong part' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'wrong part' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair loose baffles in mine too' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

On my 2000 996 coupe, I recently replaced both catalytic converters with new Magnaflow units, with new O2 sensors, due to a bank 1 converter failure.

Absolutely no drone on the road or freeway, and he was able to repair loose baffles in mine too before returning them to me.

The real change in exhaust note will come from changing the mufflers.

In addition, the outlets are 2" short of the muffler inlet, so I had a fabricator tig weld extensions so I wouldn't have to use the clamps and extensions supplied by MagnaFlow.

While Bank 1 now shows correct values for the ahead/behind O2 sensor voltages, the bank 2 sensor values appear to show incorrect activity using my Durametric, see photo below.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

On my 2000 996 coupe, I recently replaced both catalytic converters with new Magnaflow units, with new O2 sensors, due to a bank 1 converter failure. While Bank 1 now shows correct values for the ahead/behind O2 sensor voltages, the bank 2 sensor values appear to show incorrect activity using my Durametric, see photo below. The converters were around 350C temperature as shown by the Durametric. Replacing the O2 sensors did not change the readings. What other diagnostics can I run to confirm if the bank 2 converter is defective?
Looks like the sensors may be crossed....
Unplug "A" sensor to generate a fault code then make sure the fault code matches the sensor placement location........ie..... if the code is for bank 2 sensor 1 make sure it is indeed bank 2 sensor 1 that is unplugged...
Do them all one at a time ( or at least three of them , because if three are correct the last one has to be correct), process of elimination is very effective sometimes...
I thought the magnaflows look like a good replacement option too. Is there real performance benefit to a crossover pipe or is it mostly a sound mod? Of course the cheapest xpipe with a cat is the top gear unit with questionable 200cell cats.
Maybe no help, buy I've got the blue cabled O2 sensor as the before sensor. Here's the pic from my changeover to Magnaflows some years ago.
@Deserion
, I bought the Magnaflows from Oreilly's.
@Gulfer
, I bought the Magnaflows to comply with California emissions. Apparently Magnaflow had these approved by CARB as a replacement. Very few options if you want to stay within the law. Nothing to note about change in exhaust tone. X-pipes and headers will definitely improve sound and performance. And there are many options. Choose a known supplier(FSI), don't cheap out. The real change in exhaust note will come from changing the mufflers. Many choices on this as well. Gundo hack, Fister mod, Speedtech valved mufflers.
I bought direct from MagnaFlow and had to wait several months for fulfillment. I'm using the Bosch O2 sensors 13564 (before) and 15250 (after), all had dark gray cables with light gray connectors. In addition, the outlets are 2" short of the muffler inlet, so I had a fabricator tig weld extensions so I wouldn't have to use the clamps and extensions supplied by MagnaFlow. I found the cats a little louder and with more "gurgle" than the oem units with Fister mufflers.
Regarding the incorrect bank 2 readings, I think I received the wrong O2 sensor despite the "correct" box and label (Amazon...). Will check that out and report back after the rain stops today.
Update: Replaced O2 sensor, it was the wrong part but in the correct box. Now necessary to confirm the actual part numbers before installing, lol. Anyway, all is good! Im still thinking of selling these and getting an OEM converter, though, in case anyone is interested in buying them. Will post in Marketplace.
Re: exhaust tone
I recently saw a YouTube video on a Fisker conversion to the existing factory mufflers ( around $700) that made a huge, huge difference in the tone. I think the stock tone is really too muted and lacks the spirit of older models or even that of the GT series, but apparently the conversion is supposed to make it sound more like the GT3 (which I've never heard before).
The conversion apparently doesn't increase the interior cabin noise according to same video.I don't have the link handy though. Sorry.
If you mean Fister, yes they sound
brilliant
and Darin is fantastic to do business with. Absolutely no drone on the road or freeway, and he was able to repair loose baffles in mine too before returning them to me.
@zunepuh
Thanks, as mentioned above, I received the wrong part, which wasn’t apparent until I removed the sensor and read the part number on it. Lesson learned: don’t trust what the box indicates!!
