Porsche retail price for a pre-2002 tank is £143 +VAT (post 2002 £63), so if you don't fancy DIY, you should get change from £350 from a good indy.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi, 2001 3.4 996 c4 cab, i have a cracked coolant expansion tank i wish to replace but i can't see how the old one is removed? it looks to big to come out without putting up a fight, any one else done this themselves? any help will be much apreciated . also my exhaust rattles on moving at low revs (reversing into garage or pulling away) porsche centre have told me the manifold to cat brackets were rusting i while ago so is this the problem? and if so is it easy to do myself? again thanks a bunch for any help or advise that can be thrown in my direction. simon

POST 2Original post

cant help with diy but opc charged me around £400 to replace mine! Also had a problem with my exhaust tips, if you flicked the end on the one (even with engine off) it rattled compared to the other. I took it off and cleaned it up when i put it back on tightly it stopped an annoying rattle at low revs. Just a suggestion!

POST 4Original post

Had my expanson tank replaced at the beginning of the year. As I understand it as the tank is attached to the top of the engine, you need to drop the whole engine out to get access. So I don't think it's a DIY job, well it certainly wouldn't be for me. Simon

POST 5Original post

Had mine done 2 months ago £400 and replaced the oil filler nozzle as well as these are plastic and tend to break when the water bottle is taken out. Don't remember the engine coming out tho  TB

POST 7Original post

The engine definitely doesn't need to come out! Book time is 1.2 hours, plus refilling and bleeding the system. The worst part is getting off the crappy spring hose clips. Porsche retail price for a pre-2002 tank is £143 +VAT (post 2002 £63), so if you don't fancy DIY, you should get change from £350 from a good indy.
