Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Just to double check I bought a device for measuring the thickness of the rotors and they are down to 32.1mm (34mm when new) - pads have 5mm of material remaining.
Leading evidence: 'made by textar' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Suggestion
I need to check the prices for the original Porsche pads and establish if the price is for pairs or if they are for the entire front set (doubt it).

Had an advisorary from the OPC last service that I should replace the brake discs and pads but I bulked at the £800 they quoted to do the job.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So they do need doing as maximum allowable wear to the discs is 2mm and I am just about at this.
I imagine its a fairly simple job - I have always done this sort of thing myself.
It seems the only extra I'd need on top of the design911 front discs and pad package are the bolts? (How many?)
Anyone bought from design911? When they say OEM do they mean Porsche or I have heard Sebro - and the pads are textar is that right? I understand these are the manufacturers of the parts that Porsche sell in the branded boxes - just at 2/3 of the price - but no compromise on quality? Is that right?
It is an easy job and seeing as you did the PSE switch you are more than capable of doing this :thumb:
Don't skimp on the discs, make sure you get the proper Porsche ones, I think you might struggle to find 3rd party 4S/Turbo discs.
I'd go for the damping shims, yes they cost but reusing old ones can lead to slightly spongy pedal feel, I didn't start to appreciate this until I was getting my 4S ready for sale and didn't fancy the annoying squeal putting the vendor off, old shims - a little squeal, slightly spongy. New shims - no squeal, great pedal feel
Vlad, I had a similare question about new pads. in the end I bought genuine pads which turned out to made by Textar.
The only difference I can spot is that the genuine ones have a different code stamped on them, and the OEM parts are about 1/3 the price of genuine items.
On the Design911 Website the OEM discs are "NOT" original Porsche, be careful with this particularly if you want Original Porsche Discs.
£800 seems about the norm to be honest.
For my 997 the discs (original Porsche) are £300 delivered and you can get a set of pads (Textar) for about £60 a pair. So for £420 + a few sundries, wear detectors, bolts anti-squeal shims Optimoly grease say another £80.
So you could do the job yourself for about £500. Well wort the £300 saving IMO. I have also heard the Textar pads are the same as the Original Porsche but if you go original Porsche then expect to pay as already said 3 times the price.
I need to check the prices for the original Porsche pads and establish if the price is for pairs or if they are for the entire front set (doubt it).
[edit]
I have just been inquiring with a few Independents for prices for changing both front and rears on my 997.
Best Price I got for original Porsche parts for the fronts was £498 + VAT fitted. So you could go to an Independent and still save £200
I got the best price for the Porsche discs from
www.porscheshop.co.uk
.
I'd be surprised if they weren't priced in fours. Certainly whenever I've bought Pagids they have arrived in a box of four pads. In the UK its about £170 (including VAT and delivery) for a set of Pagid blues (RS4-2) for a 993. Half the price in the US.
Makes sense of course but it's been a long time since I bought anything like this for a car. I've usually just changed the car! Well I have for the last 10 years anyway.
I don't have this luxury anymore
For what it's worth, here is photo of the back of one of the front pads as supplied by my Porsche dealer....you'd think they would make an effort to put a Porsche Logo to mask the manufacturer details.
I think the OEM Textar pad have a T4042 code marked on them. Can someone confirm or post up a photo of the OEM parts?
Thanks
What are the "wheels" for on the top of the pad?
I changed mine a few times recently trying to disgnose a hi speed brake judder. I got a set of textars at a great price from marque21 but the are without the "wheels", all works fine, just wondered thats all.
no, reused the shims. The previous pads were very recent so there was some stickyness still left.
Brakes are fine most all the time, get a bit juddery still when they are a: hot & b: I'm going pretty quick.
Previous pad was an OEM Ate, with the vibration weights, these were worse.
