This is not a probability of success.

Personally speaking I started to use 5w-40 after the RMS was replaced at 22k and never had another RMS issue, I sold the car at 53k.

Suggestion

It is often thought that thinness of the recommended oil may be a reason for the repeated RMS issue as even after the new RMS is used leaks still occur.

The car has no warranty, but they replaced the seals and got Porsche to pay 80% of the labour costs so it cost me £150.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My C4S has just come back from a minor service at the OPC Wilmslow and they have replaced the main oil seals as apparently I had a very minor leak (So minor, that no oil was actually hitting the floor). The car has no warranty, but they replaced the seals and got Porsche to pay 80% of the labour costs so it cost me £150. It feels like a product recall type issue that is being quietly sorted out by the dealer with the minimum of fuss. Anyone else had this done effectively for free by their dealer?

POST 2Original post

Do a search on RMS (rear main seal) on this forum and you'll read plenty of reports Had my RMS done for free, however this was done under warranty. Had the clutch replaced at the same time only paying for the part alone - no labour. It is often thought that thinness of the recommended oil may be a reason for the repeated RMS issue as even after the new RMS is used leaks still occur. Personally speaking I started to use 5w-40 after the RMS was replaced at 22k and never had another RMS issue, I sold the car at 53k.
