don't (I think) run slicks - which make a BIG difference, road tyres cannot even get close to the grip available.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Uwe strikes back. That'll follow a big lottery win, then.

POST 3Original post

Uggggh, man that thang is ugly. Kinda like some 17 yr old MPCB (Max Power chimp boy) won a few quid on the lotto and traded up from his Corsa.

POST 4Original post

Sort of... only they'd have modded the Corsa...

POST 5Original post

That's a silly silly wing..... Saw a much more effective rear wing by Gemballa on a GT3 a while ago with some air intakes and some proper adjustable downforce type fixings.(car was being driven by what appeared to be 13 year olds). This porker probably laps the Nurburgring in about 7.30s.....

POST 6Original post

Mind you, Manu, who said Lamborghini had sole rights to Icarus immitation on their creations? (I'm thinking more of the Countach glory days than the current Audi stuff.) Actually, the criticism from our fellow PHer above, re. the 'Max Power' aesthetics, is not terribly misdirected. Surely one doesn't need SUCH ludicrous appendages for aerodynamic purposes? Nevertheless, I'll wager this contraption would distort the fabric of time and space were it to apply even three quarters' throttle in 3rd... Divine madness.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I suspect that it is largely cosmetic but with a top speed if 235MPH or so IIRC it probably needs help staying on the ground!!!

POST 8Original post

I wouldn't be so sure about being largely cosmetic. From experience I've driven at 195 in a straight line in a non-spoilered up 911, it felt good, however when developing these machines you've got take make them go around corners/curves at full whack and get back on the ground ASAP when you belt it over a brow going airborn. Ref 235mph, I think this would be unlikely as you would be restricted by road tyres available. In a similar way that the Eclass V12 7.3 litre 580bhp brabus mercedes is limited/geared to 207mph by the tyres available. Great looking motor though. Interestingly Ruf, Gemballa and Techart recently seem to have been on a bit of a Nurburgring record chase at the moment to see who makes the fastest road legal 911s. Whilst at the ring at the weekend I was told a Pagani Zonda had done a 7'14 BTG time in May, which I would estimate to be a 7'33 full lap. I think the Porsche tuners may have got some competition! DAZ

POST 9Original post

In that picture it reminds me of a tacky Toyota Supra Turbo. Not air-cooled enough, anyway

POST 10Original post

I love all this trying to get under the 7 mins round the ring with hugely expensive road cars. ive got the video 'In car 956' which has Derek Bell lapping well under 7 mins (6.30 think) in an old technology Porker 956 with the heavy & bulky 1980's technology camera gear on board. Ok it was a no compramise race car on slicks but it is now an old car and had a 'mere' 650 bhp & cost wise you could buy one for the price of a Pagini or an extreme RUF. I would have thought todays supercars running more bhp & current tyre technology would have been far quicker but they are over 1/2 a minuite adrift.

POST 11Original post

RUF etc. don't (I think) run slicks - which make a BIG difference, road tyres cannot even get close to the grip available.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just checked and they claim a mere 225mph There has been a few roadcars with higher than 207mph tops speeds so I assume the tyres are available? EB110GT, XJ220, Macca F1, lots infact www.maxpages.com/supercar/Top_Speed >> Edited by hughjayteens on Wednesday 11th September 14:31

POST 13Original post

Dom's RS can top 227mph, well, owners claimed figures anyway

POST 14Original post

fair point about the slicks but a road legal current track day tyre like a Michelin pilot cup sport is almost an intermediate race tyre anyway and a full sticky slick is said to be worth perhaps 2 - 4 secs around an avarage race circuit (so evo reckoned but racers feel free to correct my guestimations) over normal road tyres. so perhaps 2 sec over the track day rubber so if av track = 3 miles the ring = 14 miles perhaps 10secs 'ish' could be explained away due to the rubber what about the rest??

POST 15Original post

"what about the rest", maybe weight? Not sure about the car you are talking about, however race cars are usually pretty srtipped out. Would be interesting to see the stats of each car side by side.

POST 16Original post

Was intrigued so did a little digging on the Porsche 956 Engine: Six-cylinder four valve turbo boxer engine, air cooled cylinder, water-cooled cylinder heads, four overhead camshafts with timming gear. Output: 620HP at 8200RPM. Displacement: 2649 cc. Fuel system: Fully electronic optimum performance Bosch fuel injection system, 99 litre tank. Driveline: Five-speed gearbox, single-plate clutch (eventually turned into double plate clutch when converted into sequential speed gearbox). Chassis: Aluminium monocoque with plastic body, independent wheel suspension, coil springs with two brake callipers per wheel, internally ventillated dual-circuit disc brakes. Dimentions & Weight: Wheel base 2600mm, lenght 4800mm, width 2000mm, weight 820kg. Not suprised this is faster than a road car, it's a group C racer!!!!! Downforce will give you the extra speed methinks!!!

POST 17Original post

Ha ha 820kg that might be a factor!!!! thats like an elise with 2 up & 650bhp!! Yeh I know its a group C and that a road car, any road car will be left for dead by a racer but this is an old technology 20yrs old race car and something like a pagini, an F50 or a RUF ctr is hardly a nice and soft shopping car. I'm just supprised at the huge time difference between them. Mind you that lap from Derek Bell is still the 5th fastest ring lap ever i belive.... and even that 700+hp bmw x5 with the le mans engine in it (saw it at goodwood fest wow!) & running on slicks was still over 7mins..

POST 18Original post

One problem with road tires is that once they overheat they turn to grease, first lap may be ok but the fun will soon begin after that methinks.

POST 19Original post

If you are tracking a 911 you should let some air out of the rear tyres, say down to 32psi not 36. Then, when warm, the tyres will not go to pot.
