I have a problem with the driver side window sealing. It seems that when I pull the handle that the window drops, but not as far down as the passenger side and also it doesn't seem to go up as far as the passenger side.
Is the microswitch failing perhaps? Or is it a window regular issue? Window will go up and down fine from what I can tell.
There’s timing reset protocols, I don’t remember exactly what they are, but somebody else will and they may be in your owners manual. I would run through that sequence first before I went any further.
the only thing in the manual is about setting the upper and lower limits, which I've done. Nothing in the manual about timing reset protocols
That’s what I was talking about. I would disconnect the
battery
reconnect it and try to reset those
points
again. If that should fail? I don’t think it’s the switch or mechanism otherwise function would be compromised in a more obvious way. Frankly, I leave mine down a hair so that it is not constantly shifting when I open and shut the door, but I have the luxury of a garage too.
There is no microswitch for "partway down" AFAIK... it's just a timed movement. If the window isn't going down far enough, then I'd ask if the two windows go up/down at the same speed. If not, then that's the problem. My guess would be that the driver one is probably just worn or sticky, causing it to move slower... which causes it to move less.
it goes down just barely to clear the seal. The passenger side drops more and obviously clears the seal.
The micro switch is exactly that, a switch. Just like the light switch in your house. ON - circuit closed; OFF - circuit open. Contacts made, power to circuit. Contacts not made, no power. So, the fact that the window moves means the circuit is closing. My guess is that it is the window regulator. Haven’t had to deal with that issue before, but pictures I’ve seen of the regulator seem to suggest that there is a method to adjust the height of the rise of the window. This is important to make sure the window goes up far enough, but not so far as to place too much force on the frame and top. The link below shows replacement of the regulator and/or motor and the method used to adjust the rise of the glass.
Right, as I said, you need to see if the regulator is binding. The easiest way is to raise and lower the windows together, and see if one is much slower, as I suspect it would be...
