Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The only way to remove them is to use a grinder and replace with new.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone,
I am wondering if someone can help me. I was trying to remove my headers/manifolds in the sodding heat today ( 8) ) but i was having an issue with removing them from the cat's. There is 3 screws/bolts that connect the headers to the cats and i cant for the life of me figure out how to remove them!!! :?
The new headers/manifolds that i have are a direct replacement for the stock ones and have all new replacement bolts for the connections between the new headers and cats however i cant remove the nuts! i have had a look in the parts catalogue and the bolts that are stock are called 'lock nut M8' part number 999 084 052 02. Its seems as if an 8 size socket is the right size to remove them but it almost feels as if there is no nut on them at all and that they are almost that they are welded on!
Has anyone any tips for removing these bolts or even better tried to disconnect the headers from the cats successfully before????
I have hoping these is a relatively simple job!
Thanks,
Chris
Be prepared for some horrible work...
Just replaced all the headers on my '01. All the bolts will be rusty. The bolts from headers to cats and cats to cans will be knackered with rust. The only way to remove them is to use a grinder and replace with new.
The header studs holding them into the head will snap. It doesn't matter what you do, it's unlikely you'll remove them all without some going. 8 out of 16 of mine snapped in the head, so then each requires drilling and helicoiling. If you're really unlucky you'll have to remove part of the cooling system to get a drill in there, so that all needs draining and refilling too.
Don't attempt this job on a driveway, it needs to be done on a ramp with the correct tools.

Thanks for the replies guys, i am now thinking either not to bother or getting a grage to do it for me. Is this something that a garage will do and if so how many hours will it take and the rough charge for it?
A good independent would be able to do the whole job in about 2 hours, that's how long mine would have taken if I hadn't had any hassle. They charge £50+theft per hour. Then there's new clamps, can't remember but I think they're about 30 quid each.
If any studs snap it's an hour to drill and helicoil each one. Then the associated hassle if you need to remove part of the cooling system.
My total bill was £800
