Suggestion
Replace the standard filter with a BMC F1 and you'll get a 3dB noise increase and increased roar at 4.5k

Suggestion
I'd go for a Fabspeed CAI with a BMC F1, lots of noise with the advantages of using the original airbox so no hot air ingress
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have had my 996 C2 Cab for about 7/8 months now as a weekend toy only and have been really pleased with it. It is great fun on back roads and very accomplished at everything it is built to do.
I do find though that it is almost too ruthlessly efficient and lacks a certain "wow" factor. I fitted an agency power rear exhaust which has helped, but any suggestions as to how to make them a little more "spine tingling"?
I am very tempted by the K&N induction kit for a little more noise more than anything but am I wasting my time and money? Should I just add some funds and get a turbo or now that I have got this one pretty much as I wanted in, modify a little further?
IMO you will find the TT even more ruthless in it's efficiency ..... turning of the PSM might help but not sure if it's recommended! If you really like scaring yourself, try a GT2
Thanks guys - I actually find the handling very, very good so no complaints there at all. Really interesting comment on the Turbo - I drove a couple of C4s before buying mine and personally far preffered the C2.
PSM - pah! Not got that on mine now and makes it much more fun
I think I may have a crack at the Fabspeed CAI with a BMC F1 - is there much difference between the Fabspeed and the Schnell kit that you can see:

Thanks again all....
Hi Chauch,
You seem to be exactly where I was 7/8 months into my 996 (coupe) ownership, like you mine was a toy which had replaced a 968 and exactly like you are doing now I found myself investigating ways to give it a bit more 'bite'. Whilst is was much faster and more capable than my old 968 (which was slightly modified & which I only use as an example) the 996 didn't always feel as much fun or as special on a sunny evening. The 996 even in its most basic form is in my opinion a phenomenally capable performance car, effortlessly fast, modern and easy to drive but (and I don't say this to ruffle any feathers (I'm a fan)) I've concluded that they (the standard cars) detach the driver somewhat from the thrilling experience of driving fast.
I'm honestly not being glib when I suggest you consider an earlier car? as you know I traded my 996 for a 993 which I collected at 9am this morning and I'm thrilled, really thrilled!! They're not as fast or as slick as the 996 but they really do have something and it might be what you're looking for.
But given that I'm only in my first day of 993 ownership I may well be posting here this time tomorrow advising you to stick with the 996 at all costs ....
Hi Mike - thanks for the post and this is absolutely something I have been considering. I will watch your thread with great interest and welcome your thoughts as they develop.
The Cabs do not work quite as well for me on the 993 and the family now insist that I have something with no roof, although I think I could live the the "pitched tent" look as it would be down almost all the time I use it!
I'd go for a Fabspeed CAI with a BMC F1, lots of noise with the advantages of using the original airbox so no hot air ingress

I'm tempted to get a silicone hose for about £25 and find a blanking plug somewhere. I'll to measure the hose, but they seem to be like a 45 degree hose. More investigation I think.

There's plenty of discussion on Rennlist regarding this, look for 'orange cap'. Replace the standard filter with a BMC F1 and you'll get a 3dB noise increase and increased roar at 4.5k
Exactly the same for me - if the 993 hood looked and operated as well as the 996 it would be a no-brainer for me. As it is, I have done the BMC panel & silicone hose modification thingy, and also got sports suspension and the car setup with X74 geometry. Huge improvement. Its a new car.
I agree the 996 is too civilised!!
I have recently sold my 993 C4 Cab and bought a 996 Turbo Cab. Whilst the 996 is blisteringly fast, sure footed and loaded with goodies, it is not as much fun as the 993
The thrill is gone
unless you really push it!!
I think a noiser exhaust may help, any suggestions?
try turning off the PSM although I'm not sure of the consequences ... it should in theory put the fun back into driving :?:
