Suspected cause

If you've had your wheels professionally balanced and tyres replace (and confirmed wheels are not buckled), then it's probably the brake discs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I purchased my 996 c2s last november and all was fine, about 2 months ago in noticed a vibration at about 70 mph but stopped at quicker and lower speeds, looked at the front tyres they were worn badly on the inside. Ah easy fix 4 wheel alighnment at porsche specialist and 2 new front tyre (p-zero's). Problem solved, so i thought. Now I get a small vibration starting at 100 and increasing in severity up to 140+ (on a track of course) where it feels like the car is going to shake itself apart. Has anyone else had this problem or got any pointers where to start looking. Thanks Chris

POST 2Original post

Hi, This has been discussed on this forum a few times, if yo do a search under steering vibration you'll find the thread. If you've had your wheels professionally balanced and tyres replace (and confirmed wheels are not buckled), then it's probably the brake discs. Search on something like brake disc vibration and you'll probably find it. Cheers, GD

POST 4Original post

Firstly if you have spacers fitted, remove and retest. I had the same problem it felt like it was gonna shake itself apart at 140 till i took out the rear spacers. I found the wheels weren't sat square on the hubs and the bolts alone won't do it. I then brought spacers with the same lip machined on them as the hub itself which seats the wheels properly. It's now rock solid at 170+

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, for the sudgestions ive now got somewhere to start looking. Im currently working away so will have a play next weend and post the result. Thanks Chris

POST 7Original post

I had the same issue, both front and rear tyres needed re-balancing, three out of four were 'way out'. I am also having the track rod end (steering column end) replaced at JZM tomorrow, as there was play in that too. Start with the tyres, having them done made a huge difference.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the answeres, got home from work early so took it to my local ATS to get the wheels balences ( worth a shot for £20), they were all badly out even the 2 new ones on the front, they seem to think that they had only been statically balenced. Anyway vibration gone 8) , time to find a trak and see if its solid to the top end, again thankyou.
