Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I can say that a vacuum pipe of that size disconnected wont make a difference to the running of the car ..
Leading evidence: 'Disconnect wont make a difference' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean throttle body' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

It can't be coincidence that it was playing up just after having replaced the broken valve.

Have just this afternoon replaced the clutch helper spring thing, so will take the car out later this week to test that out and also check again whether I have any more throttle issues...

the same if you fix a fault and dont reset an adaption .

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Last night I replaced my engine mounts and therefore had the airbox & snorkel out.
While they were out I gave the engine and compartment a good clean and noticed a loose little pipe which I assumed I must've caught as I was cleaning.
The pipe in question is about 4-5mm think and comes from/to the intake manifold just after the throttle-body and should go into a little light-grey solenoid (I think it is) just above the alternator.
The solenoid has an electrical plug connected on one side and two small male push-on connectors on the other, one of which has broken off and was in the end of the little pipe mentioned above.
The other little connector has an identical little pipe going towards the front of the engine but can't see exactly where.
Luckily the broken connector has pulled out from the pipe perfectly and I have ordered a new solenoid which according to google is called a 'change-over valve".
I'm 99% certain I didn't break the pipe off and looking at the condition of the broken connector that was stuck in the end of the pipe I'd say it has been broken for a while.
The car has, I think, been running fine but I've only own it for a few weeks so perhaps wouldn't know otherwise – so what exactly please does this valve do????
Presumably the two little pipes are vacuum pipes...??
Thanks!
Off hand i think that change over valve is for the inlet resonance flap .
Details in the image below .
I can say that a vacuum pipe of that size disconnected wont make a difference to the running of the car ..
Yes its an air leak but its too small and the car can easily adapt for it ..
basically more air is bypassing the maf so un metered air .. the lambda sensors see a weak mixture and open the injectors for longer ( injector duration is increased ) ..
It squirts more fuel in per cycle !!!!
Need a bigger air leak than that to get the injectors to max out .
Thank you, I think that's what it must be. Will be collecting the new valve tomorrow and will hopefully fit it tomorrow or Saturday so will let you know how I get on. Thanks again, Mark
So, fitted the new valve on Friday, took the car out on a few journeys yesterday, first couple of times I started it the revs would hunt for a while and the car 'jumped" a little. Third time I started it it seemed to be fine (possibly just coincidence. Gave it a good drive though on some backroads and A road.
Started it this morning and all seems fine.
Was the revs hunting the car learning the new airflow after having fitted the new valve or could it be something unconnected or possibly connected??
Thanks!
Did you/ have you ever cleaned the throttle body? Mine was hunting and the very slim aperture left by the throttle body butterfly when it was closed was partially obscured by an oily build up of grime. Cleaning it out sorted the hunting issue.
Thanks, I cleaned the throttle body quite a while ago, have been out in it loads since. It can't be coincidence that it was playing up just after having replaced the broken valve.

The car had an air leak and adapted to it .. these are long term adaptations .
You fixed the air leak , the car will have to learn and adapt to this ..
Basically it's been giving more fuel for months if not years and its set up to keep doing this ... you have now stopped the leak but not told it so it will weaken off the mixture until it gets back to the correct amount ...
If you clear a fault code in the DME it will reset adaptions .. this often makes a car run poorly for a few miles until it re learns the faults on a car .. the same if you fix a fault and dont reset an adaption .
Your car is fine
