Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
Will be 1/3rd cost of Jazmine and most likely a better job.
Leading evidence: 'better job' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'better job' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check play in the bearing' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If you really want to change the bearing, go for a large bearing IMS when you change the main bearings at 100k+ miles.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys
My 100k miles 2003 Targa, I think, needs a new clutch.
Is now the time to do the IMS as well? And if so, there seems to be so many options, which version should I have?
Cheers?
Do the IMS?
Remove the outer seal and check for play in the bearing. Once you know there's no play leave alone until next clutch change. If there is any play, come back on here and ask for help.
Don't do anything stupid like spending a ton of money on a replacement alternative.
thanks guys - when I bought the car I called OPC who did the last clutch and asked about the IMS then. They said they didn't do it as it wasn't needed.
Thanks
As mentioned above, I dread the time I have to sell mine and get a load of questions on whether the IMS has been done. I will sound like a used car salesman trying to convince them its best to get one that hasnt been "fixed".....
However, thankfully no plans to sell mine. I have opted to remove the bearing cover and inspect my existing bearing (80k miles) - felt like new. I also get a Millers oil analysis done, which will hopefully help me to spot if the bearing is starting to wear excessively in the future (which with the improved oil lubrication should be a long way off). There are no guarantees in life - its a case of playing the odds.....
Loving the cab style of the 996. I see that your local to myself, I need to get my clutch done, looking for some good referrals, the nearest two I know of are;
