Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Discussions that suspect a cause
1

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suspected cause

If the wiper arm body is hollowed out a bit you might be bottoming the nut you could add a washer to seat it further, but a new arm is probably the next step after that.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was minding my own business when someone threw a drink out of their window in front of me and it splashed up on my windshield. I hit the washers, and my wiper just up and peaced out. Just a few days ago, I realized that the wiper arm was a little too high up on the windshield so I loosened the nut and moved the wiper to its appropriate location. When removing and reinstalling, I really couldnt tell if the wiper arm is supposed to be splined like the splined conical mount the wiper bolts to or not. The arm didnt look splined, but it looked like make the conical mount has stripped out some grooves in the arm. I tried looking at photos of the wipe arm online, but I cant tell if it is splined or not. Does anybody know what it is supposed to look like out of the box? Also, any idea on how to keep it in place instead of letting it slip up and away? I torqued it down to the 12ft-lb spec, but maybe I am missing something else in the assembly?

POST 2Original post

That is pretty frustrating. I cant speak to what new ones look like, but pelican has them for $90 each.

POST 3Original post

They r a splined and tappeered fit. U dont have to lift much to get them to rotate or pull off.

POST 4Original post

It may be that the incident stripped the splines off the old wiper arm better than stripping the wiper post! If the wiper arm body is hollowed out a bit you might be bottoming the nut you could add a washer to seat it further, but a new arm is probably the next step after that.

The wiper post is fine. I cleaned it up a little with some fine grain steel wool to de-junk the splines, and it looks to be in good order. And that was part of my quandary, was the junk from stripping the splines on the wiper arm or just from the friction fit between the post and an un-splined arm.
