Anyway, I'd get the oil system checked just in case!

When I stop at a gas station and fill up my car, I go through all the normal steps (open gas filler door, unscrew gas cap, fill up, tighten gas cap until it clicks, etc.) and when I go into my car I will start up my car and reset the mileage counter and then drive off.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi All- I was wondering if anyone has experienced an unexplained event related to the oil level readout on the computer display that I will describe here. When I stop at a gas station and fill up my car, I go through all the normal steps (open gas filler door, unscrew gas cap, fill up, tighten gas cap until it clicks, etc.) and when I go into my car I will start up my car and reset the mileage counter and then drive off. What's interesting is that approximately 5+ times in the past year and a half of owning my car when I'm heading down the street from leaving the gas station I look at my computer display on my dashboard and I notice that the oil level indicator is displayed! When I start my car after filling up with gas I do not leave the key in the on position to cause the computer to think that I want to measure the oil level rather I just start the car in the normal fashion. The oil level reading will remain on the computer display until I hit the computer stalk to display my last reading which is usually miles-to-empty. Anyone have any idea what causes this scenario? It has only happened to me after filling up my tank and no other time. Thanks for any input you can provide.

POST 2Original post

hmmm, that seems awkward, yet -as it appears- harmless as u can get back to normal display using the control stick. Anyway, I'd get the oil system checked just in case! ________________________ "Sir! We're surrounded!" - "Excellent! We can shoot in any direction!" A good car will get you from point A to point B. A great car... will just get you into trouble!

POST 3Original post

I can't remember the time delay, but if you fill up and wait a few minutes to drive (i.e go into the service station to pay, use the rest room, etc..), the car will automatically display the oil level upon start-up. Edit - Just found it in the manual - p.110 if looking at 2006 CS: Conditions: 1. Ignition is turned off. 2. If the engine is at operating temperature at least 5 minutes must elapse between parking the vehicle and starting the engine. 3. Refueling completed within 15 minutes.

POST 4Original post

The manual suggests the automatic oil measurement will take place if your refuelling takes between 5 and 15 minutes. So don't spend too long in the rest room...

POST 5Original post

I've had this happen once. I now remove the key when filling up.

POST 6Original post

This happened to me the other day and thought it was odd but wasn't too concerned as the oil level was ok. Good to know why it happened
