Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Taken from the Cayman Club FAQ: Remote Key - The remote-control standby function switches off after 7 days If the vehicle is not started or unlocked with the remote control within five days, the remote control standby function is switched off (to prevent discharging of the car battery). In this case, unlock the driver’s door with the key at the door lock. Leave the door closed in order to prevent the alarm system from being triggered. Press button 1 on the remote control. The remote control is now activated again. Read the FAQ! It is full of FAQs

POST 2Original post

Not true...I had my car parked in my garage for 13 days and my remote key still worked...

POST 4Original post

I believe I've had it happen to me in both cases (locked & unlocked). I could be wrong.... -Moto

POST 5Original post

This has happened to me both times I've been away on vacation for more than a week. My car was left locked each time.

POST 6Original post

Yes, there is a lot of good info in the FAQs. Those that are familiar with them may want to take another look. We have recently reformatted the index to make the info easier to find. We've also been adding to the content. Have a look: The Cayman Club - FAQ

POST 7Original post

Another one on record claiming it does happen ; so know what to do.

POST 8Original post

It does happen. I left my car locked for weeks at a time this winter and the remote key stopped working. I had to use the key in the door method to unlock the car. However, I do want to bring something else in the mix. The FAQ says that you should not open the door to prevent the alarm from triggering. I did not find that to be the case each time. Mainly because I remember the 7 day rule for remote key, but forgot the "leave door closed" rule. So each time, I inserted key into door, then opened the door with no alarm. Am I reading the FAQ correctly?

POST 9Original post

The FAQ is basically a direct quote from the owner's manual - so I'm not sure why some cars are acting differently - but all of the instances I've heard of personally have the alarm going off if the door is opened... and this shutoff of the remote system definitely only happens when the car is left in a locked state. bad

POST 10Original post

The longest I had my car on stand-by and did not have the described effect was I think 17 days.

POST 11Original post

well the car had once been parked for like two weeks and that never happened. However, it did happen once after being parked for like 3 hours gladly I remembered that procedure and all was good. ________________________ "Sir! We're surrounded!" - "Excellent!
