I then disconnected the battery as suggested and reconnected and i was luckily enough to be able to use the key fob.
Leading evidence: 'Disconnect battery as suggested' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'bar between the barrel and lock isnt functioning correctly' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect batter' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Do you know how long the alarm goes off for after disconnecting the battery without putting the key in the ignition?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
The usual situation where by my car alarm goes into sleep mode, I unlock with the key in the door, alarm goes off and I put the key in the ignition.
Issue: Drivers door lock will not unlock with the key in the door. I suspect the bar between the barrel and lock isnt functioning correctly so I am now lock out of the car!
Question: if I pull the *bonnet manual release, will it set the alarm off, bring it out of sleep mode, and allow me to unlock the car with the fob?
Has anyone else experienced this problem before? Any help would be great appreciated.
Thanks
Antony
Pull the manual bonnet opening see if it works .. then disconnect the battery and reconnect ... you have a chance .. i've tried it at work and it didn't work .. que a smashed window to get into the car but i've read on here that people have had success doing this so try it is all i can say .
Frunk / Trunk = Bonnet .. front one
Toot / frut or whatever the name is = Boot .. rear one
I do hate the American terms mixed with English .. .. it's a bonnet and a boot as it has always been grrr ..
No offence young man
EDIT .. Just to say .. if it comes down to a window .. do the passenger one .. you don't end up sitting in glass that way .
Thanks for the reply, Ill try the openning the bonnet and disconnecting the batter. Fingers crossed.
Do you know how long the alarm goes off for after disconnecting the battery without putting the key in the ignition? Ill have to plan when i do it so i dont deafen my neighbours.
Thanks,
Antony
If you're in the "frunk" then the siren is under the plastic cover to the right of the battery cover and relatively easy to disconnect... the horn will continue to blare but your neighbours will probably thank you if the "procedure" you need to attempt takes any amount of time
wear ear defenders!!! - particularly if you are doing this inside a garage - the alarm siren on our cars is no bloody joke
The siren will sound for 30 seconds then reset .. if it still thinks a theft is happening it will sound for another 30 seconds .
Once the siren is activated on these then even if you have a working key fob or key in the ignition it will still take 30 seconds .
I've driven cars into the workshop with the siren going many times .
Officially .. the ONLY way to deactivate the alarm is via the fob or the key in the ignition .. tripping the alarm or more likely disconnect and reconnect the battery is a trick that may or may not work .. the Porsche instructions say it won't but you don't have much to lose by trying .
I wonder if ferrari owners call the bonnet a Frunk ? or anyone with a rear based engine ?
Been there, done that. The only thing to sort it is to frig the switch in the door mech.
That means getting to it, Every case seems to be different. In my case it meant smashing the window.
For the barrel replacement, search VW Bora barrel repair kit. About £5 on eBay. Porsche only sell the part as a component in the inner handle assembly. It's the same stuff, just stuck with a load of bits you don't need.
Thanks for all your help and advise, i managed to get into the bonnet with the manual release. I then disconnected the battery as suggested and reconnected and i was luckily enough to be able to use the key fob. Mines an early 996 so not sure if thats why it worked but im relieved!
Thanks,
Antony
