I currently have a kenwood double din, CarPlay stereo that was £1500 installed according to the invoice.

Hi, one of the next DIY jobs is to replace the single-din aftermarket head-unit which looks 1990's hideous with a nice sleek OEM looking double-din head-unit, added benefit will be Apple carplay and plus I'll be able to use Google maps as the Sat-Nav!

I can see the attraction of them but having previously owned a 996 with single din the main big bear for me is that I can't see or use the climate as it's so low down.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyway, looks a bit of a minefield regarding the different kits....
I have a Cupholder, which I'm happy to remove if needed as I don't use it, but some of the kits are for cars without cupholders – may be a stupid question but would the non-cupholder kits work if I just remove my cupholder..???
In the bottom half of the center-console I have the CD racks at the top and then a cubbyhole below it, the CD racks look to be rectangular, but the cubbyhole has a tapered shape.
I understand that I will need to relocate the HVAC unit (which is currently at the top of the top-half of the center-console) to the bottom-half, but it looks to be taller than the CD racks and also wouldn't fit I don't think where the cubbyhole is because the recess is tapered?? (Could all be wrong!)
Do I need any special trims for the HVAC unit, and where please in the lower console does it go (top or bottom)? Do I have to relocate, or purchase a new cubbyhole?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Hold all that, just spoken with Dynamic sounds, which sell a facia-kit (where I think the cupholder remains, not that I care either way) and also a trim to relocate the HVAC unit in the bottom half of the lower console and also a cubbyhole above it. So all sorted now! Thanks.
Better with the HVAC in the upper part of the cubby. Easier to use and see. I did a write-up on it here:

Went a bit OTT with the machining and could easily have been done with various home tools.
I currently have a kenwood double din, CarPlay stereo that was £1500 installed according to the invoice. I'll be removing it in order to revert it back to a single din. Let me know if that of interest to you

Yeah, this has the cd holder thing. But I guess swapping them round would help. I'm just going to go back to a Becker updated single din. I'm far too old school i think!!!
