Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey everyone, Im chasing a 1st gear engagement issue on my 2003 996.2 C2 with a Numeric Racing shifter and stock cables. The Symptom: About 1 in 10 times at a stop, I shift into 1st, but it doesn't fully seat. When I release the clutch, it grinds and the shifter pops back into the neutral position. What Ive done so far: I have already tightened the assembly and stopper bushings, which has successfully eliminated almost all side-to-side play. The shifter feels very tight and precise in the gates. However, about 10% of the time, I still experience "false engagement" in 1st gear where the lever feels seated, but the gear grinds and pops to neutral upon clutch release. Since the lateral play is gone, I suspect a fore-aft cable adjustment issue. Specifically, Im worried the shifter might be hitting its internal physical stop before the stock cable has pulled the transmission fully into 1st gear. Has anyone running Numeric + Stock Cables had to "bias" their adjustment forward to get 1st gear to seat properly? Or is this a sign that my stock cable ends are simply too soft for the Numeric's precision? Appreciate any advice on dialing in the cable ends!
