I've never seen an actual number for the time it takes - Porsche clams on "on the fly" and mine seems to work pretty much instantaneously - when the the suspension travel and ride-height sensors detect changes, the changes happen...

Suggestion

I've seen lots of information on the working principles of PASM, but nothing on how quickly it actually adapts to changing inputs from its sensors.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I've seen lots of information on the working principles of PASM, but nothing on how quickly it actually adapts to changing inputs from its sensors. Suppose the quality of the road surface changes very abruptly or that you suddenly change your driving style (from sedate to aggressive). How long does it take for PASM to adapt the damping in response to these changes? Is it fractions of a second, seconds, tens of seconds, or more?? I have PASM with 19" wheels and sometimes I swear it takes a long time (minutes). Let's say the PASM is in sport mode and I'm driving on smooth roads. Suddenly I hit a stretch of rough pavement. The first few impacts seem bone-jarring but after a while I notice that the ride quality seems to improve even though the roads are still rough. Is it that the adaptation of the PASM is very gradual or is it me just getting used to impacts over time?

POST 2Original post

I've never seen an actual number for the time it takes - Porsche clams on "on the fly" and mine seems to work pretty much instantaneously - when the the suspension travel and ride-height sensors detect changes, the changes happen... but, they have to react to the changes - they obviously can't be proactive - so the first hit on an uneven surface will certainly not reflect the changes... I've used my PASM on the track all the time, and it seems to me to work "on the fly" as they describe. bad

POST 3Original post

My guess is it works much faster than you can say "Oh, ****!"

POST 4Original post

couldnt you just adjust it yourself when you hit rough roads?

POST 5Original post

No... Automatic is the "A" in PASM. Are you thinking about the Sports Chrono Package, where you can adjust between Normal and Sport modes? If you were in Sport Mode, even then, the PASM will adjust to a lower range of stiffness on a rough road. Again, I think the adjustment is made faster than you could decide to make the adjustment yourself.
