Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

ok i know its kind of late asking this question but here it goes anyways.... i know psm is for traction control, but when do u tun it off? -do u turn it off when u want to get off the line faster? -is it bad to have it off when ur speeding on those mountain roads? and a side question to this is when is it a good time to put ur spoiler up? do u put it up when ur trying to get downforce going on a straight away or does this slow u down? -do u turn it on when ur driving down the mountain roads? -mike (if it helps u answer my questions)5 spd cayman no pasm

POST 2Original post

If you don't have extensive track experience then you should leave it on, it is my understanding it runs in the background even when turned off to keep you from kissing those rock embankments or guard rails in the mountains. The last question kind of confused me so I will let someone else answer. I do have a question, why would anyone need or want psm disabled for street use?

POST 3Original post

PSM is more than just traction control - it also controls some cornering situations (see literature for more info). If you want to drive more aggressively PSM ON may be usefull as a backup device - it does not make you go faster, but saves you from some mistakes. I would not thinker with the spoiler any more than the pre-programmed setting already does. It provides very little (if any) downforce at low speeds.

POST 4Original post

I never turn the PSM off, except when I autocross. I am newbie on the track so PSM stays on....it is my training wheels. The rear wing raises automatically. Not sure if you can intentionally turn it off. But I only intentionally raise it to wash under it. Otherwise I let it do its thing. There are likely a LOT of threads already posted on the forum giving you insight on both of these items and without a doubt on the PSM. I am sure there are many schools of thought on when to turn it off it ever. Do a search, and find out which school of thought best suits you and your driving experience and style. Scroll to the bottom of this thread and you will see at least five links to the exact same topic. Thats a great and easy start.

POST 5Original post

I had to turn it off in the snow to keep moving. I was not expecting snow. I still have summer tires on my Cayman.

POST 6Original post

well on sport mode, PSM behaves like a good system and doesnt intervene a lot. I only turn it off when I need to turn 180 degrees (dont mean a U turn) ________________________ "Sir! We're surrounded!" - "Excellent! We can shoot in any direction!" A good car will get you from point A to point B. A great car... will just get you into trouble!

POST 7Original post

I usually drive with psm on, I think if you're an expirience driver you can turn off without a risk
