Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. Obviously I just thought they had been accidentally swapped over, but when i went to fit them the other way around they don't fit as there are little tabs on the back of the grill that only allow them to fit R on the left and L on the right.
Leading evidence: 'Replace over' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check there aren't any plug & play speakers' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Have watched many YouTube guides on how to custom fit speakers but before I do just wanted to check there aren't any plug & play speakers??

I'm not sure the woofer in the driver's door is doing anything so am thinking about simplifying things and perhaps just removing them both and also the amp and just powering some new decent dashboard and rear speakers direct from the head-unit (which will soon be replaced by a double-din unit).

If I were to keep the amp and just replace the door woofers with a set of matching 2-ways (like the dashboard and rears) how would the head-unit recognise the door speakers?

I think the only way to find out which wire really is Positive and Negative is to do a continuity test from the back of the head-unit.....

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm sure this has been covered 1000 times, but has none of the brands made a plug & play speaker for the 996 (and presumably other models)??
I'm primarily taking about the dashboard and rear speakers – haven't looked at the ones in the doors yet but think they're just set-up to be woofers.
Have watched many YouTube guides on how to custom fit speakers but before I do just wanted to check there aren't any plug & play speakers??
If not, what please are the favorite choices? Don't mind paying for decent ones. The guides all show 2-ways, are they all 2-ways..??
Thanks!!!
I purchased some 3D printed adapters from Super_Paulie via this forum. These mean that you don't need to cut or drill the dash to fit a pair of new speakers (Kenwood kfc-s1066 definitely fit)
I'm off to collect my car in 15 minutes, which is exciting - and means that it will be available for people who want to (for example) have a listen in future.
Thanks, I had a quick flick through the thread in the link from the front and also from the end backwards but I couldn't see any speaker content, where does it start please? Thanks!
Have sent Super_Paulie a PM re. the adapters.
I noticed something strange last night - the rear right speaker grill is marked "L" and the left is marked "R". Obviously I just thought they had been accidentally swapped over, but when i went to fit them the other way around they don't fit as there are little tabs on the back of the grill that only allow them to fit R on the left and L on the right. The tweeters also point up a little (presumably to fire towards ear level) and they are pointing up properly if R is on the left and likewise L on the right...??
There also doesn't look to be any sense in how the car loom speaker plugs are wired on the right and left and also how the little capacitor on the tweeter is wired...
On the right speaker there is a blue and a blue-brown wire (presumably one is + and the other is -) The blue-brown wire goes to the terminal in the speaker that then has a little black wire going to the tweeter capacitor.
On the left speaker its completely the other way around?? Logic would tell you the solid colors are all say positive and the mixed colors are all negative (or the other way around).
I think the only way to find out which wire really is Positive and Negative is to do a continuity test from the back of the head-unit.....
Is it me, or is it a bit of an unlogical mess...??
I'm not sure what speaker set-up my car will have came with as standard, but it now definitely has the rears (standard Porsche speakers), dashboard (upgraded Morels) and some "bass" speakers in the doors (haven't checked what type yet).
As standard which of these please, if any would've been powered by the head-unit and which, if any' would've been powered by an amp??
I haven't checked but I'm fairly certain there is an amp under the frunk (as i have a receipt for it), will this be powering the 'new' dashboard speakers, or the door, or both?
Are the door "bass" speakers run by the same output/signal as say the dashboard speakers or will they be a separate output??
It has an 'aftermarket' Alpine headunit.
Sorry for all the questions..!!
Thanks
The Porsche Nokia/HK system would have a six channel amp that is fed an unamplified signal from the head unit, split it out and sent it on to the speakers.
Mine had the same speakers in the dash and the rear, which were separate mid and tweeter. The doors have larger woofers in them.
I went through a couple of iterations (actually, maybe 3 thinking about it) and frankly I still don't rate my head unit, but the speakers can be very good.
I've got a Blaupunkt DAB 46 head unit, Morel 4 channel amp, Morel Virtus separates in the dash and then Virtus woofers in the doors, then connecting into the sub-channel from the head unit I have a powered Focal sub tucked up under the dash.
I wish I'd stuck with my older Becker head unit as, whilst it didn't have bluetooth for streaming music it was, from a user experience perspective in a different class.
Thanks, so the original Porsche head-unit wouldn't have powered any of the speakers directly, but would've sent a signal to an amp which would then have powered all 6 speakers?
