Vertex, just sent them the arms and they installed their HD serviceable ball joints for under $200 per.

There's only 1 ball joint on the LCA/Coffin arm - the others are bushings which can be replaced with solid bushings.

I ran the Tarett monoballs in front on my Boxster for years and have had them on my Cayman since I got it in 2019.

Suggestion
You should realize that if you replace the stock rubber with solid bushings your ride quality will get harsher - how much is subjective, but be aware going in.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just got some used GT3 lower control arms and thinking I'd like to freshen them before mounting them up. Vertex can retrofit them for ~$200 per with their replaceable ball joints, but I've seen
SPC rebuild
kits and checking to see if anyone has tackled this before. Did a search, but nothing really came up other than replace the whole thing.
I have the tool for removing/installing the middle bushing.
I've only used it once to turn a driver side 997 GT3 Cup Car LCA into a passenger side. (Bushing is different than standard 996 bushing, but the same size)
I haven't seen how to replace the ball joints.
I wish I could find replacement ball joint boots, I have a torn one on one of my Cup Car LCAs.
So, Pelican Parts got back to me and said that kit should work. Guess Ill dive in and if I can make it work, Ill sell my video to Skip so he can sell the upgrades! 😉
It looks like that kit is only for their arms.

That's what I thought, but Pelican responded that it would also fit the stock arms. Going to call SPC Monday to verify which is correct.
So does
Elephant Racing
, but that's not the point of this thread, I'm trying to improve stock GT3 LCAs, not replace them.
I have the SPC arms and I don't see how the ball kit could fit the OEM arm. However, new TRW (OEM) inners can be had (or could in the past) be had for very reasonable, search for:
TRW JTC1444 and JTC1443
If the price on one is higher than the other, get 2 of the cheaper one, and press out the center bushing and reinstall in the correct orientation. Or if you are using solid center pucks, then the side doesn't matter and you can get 2 of the cheaper one.
Thanks, I've considered doing that. For the same price as the cheaper ones, I can send mine to EPS and they'll retrofit their rebuildable ball joints. Probably going to go that route as I'm only into them for less than $100 per LCA and they'll be better than new with the EPS ball joints. Add in Elephant Racing inner ball joints and I'm at around $1,000 per axle for GT3 LCAs; saves between $500 and $1,000 to put to other new suspension parts.
I don't get what you mean by "inner ball joints"...? There's only 1 ball joint on the LCA/Coffin arm - the others are bushings which can be replaced with solid bushings. You should realize that if you replace the stock rubber with solid bushings your ride quality will get harsher - how much is subjective, but be aware going in. I've got the SPC arms on my car now and have also had the EPS arms with replaceable ball joints (I actually have a used pair for sale - with an extra set of ball joints - if you're interested)... I don't think the SPC ball joints will fit stock arms. The EPS ball joints might, but not sure as they're the only company that does the ball joint replacement. Their arms otherwise look just like stock arms... SPC not... Good luck
I used the wrong description for
spherical bearing inner monoballs
Yep, very aware. That's the reason I'm going the route to use the stock GT3 LCAs vs. Elephant or Tarett so I can revert to the stock rubber bushings if the monoballs are too harsh.
Yep, you shared with me a while back that you are using the SPC arms and that you liked them. I'm still considering those as well.
I ran the Tarett monoballs in front on my Boxster for years and have had them on my Cayman since I got it in 2019. Although I only street drive to/from the track, they didn't seem harsh to me.
Please update the thread when you get your inners (I guess I should call them outers? since they are the outer part of the LCA
) back with the ball joint retrofit, if it is the same price as getting new TRW inners it sounds like the way to go, especially if those TRW inners are getting harder to find.
I've got 1 pair of the TRW outers
that I am saving as spares, but maybe I don't need to if it works out the same to get the ball joint retrofitted!
Elephant monoballs, Powerflex bushing and rebuildable ball joint. Question for anyone with experience with these on C2s - do I need at least one 1mm spacer between the monoball and outer arm or as is for stock street? I know I need a couple of mm or so for camber adjustment on track days.
@jobyt
I believe you said you have the Elephant adjustable LCA. I found this on my friends 997 at the track yesterday. The arm was sliding up and down on the bolt. He installed them in April and has about 12 days on them. Elephant assured him that it would not come separated on the street but advised not to drive anymore on the track. The rebuild kit is available but surprised it did this.
I have the Elephant LCA's up front and I think Zbomb has them too. This interests me.
I cannot understand how the tapered pin could come out of the spherical bearing like that. If the nut holding the wheel carrier is properly installed the tapered pin should be held in place no matter what. Perhaps the tapered pin is broken?
I think its the other side of the pin thats the issue. The arm was moving about the ball/stem not in and out of the taper in the upright. I dont think those elephant arms r standard uniballs or ball joints. I would love to see one dissassembled. Elephant ships it all together so u cant see the bushings or how its made.
Our friend is having them rebuilt. Told him to keep the old parts from both sides to see how it's put together. Maybe there is a spacer on the top that broke allowing it more room to slide up and down?
I did see that Elephant Racing has a reconditioning service that is expensive. I am in the process of replacing all suspension arms this year and figured I would give them a call when I have my old ones sitting in a box to see if its worth it to reconditioning them.
