Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, Replacing my clock spring and installing my new t96 wheel. How do you remove the top shell to get to the clock spring connection?or do I need to remove the stalk assembly? Thanks In advance

POST 2Original post

First pull the wheel all the way out. Then there are 2 small star screws holding the top and bottom covers - one on each side. When these are out the covers just lift off giving access to the connectors behind the indicator module. You need to remove the 4 screws on the plastic panel around the clock spring first - if you haven't already.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Brill, didn't see those I only had a spare 15 mins earlier, my clock spring is damaged so I've got a new one, is there a certain orientation to refit? Thanks again 👍

POST 4Original post

The instructions are printed on the clockspring itself. You need to wind it all the way to the stops clockwise (I think) and then back it off 2 full turns and line up the arrow to the top. With it off the wheel obviously..... Then put it back on the shaft, connect up the wiring behind and screw it down in place.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cool, think I didn't have the column full extended so can't see the screws. Ok I'll try that!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Excellent thanks demort, any tips for the new clock spring unit going on?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, new clock spring installed, having an issue with the wiring on the t96 wheel, I seem to have a spare clip. Yellow clip (airbag) Short brown spade clip (horn) Long brown spade clip ? Black connector / attaches to t96 connector Then I have one spare red spade connector (from wheel)? When I put the battery back on the horn was sounding? I've attached 2 photos, one is the clock wires and one is the t96 wires. Anyone any pointers to what goes where?

POST 11Original post

From memory the short brown spade is the earth the the wheel frame and the long spade is the actual horn contact that is active when you press the airbag (horn). I only had the simple wheel - no buttons so I don't know where the other connector goes

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, yep I've only done a manual change before, I have a home for every wire apart from the red spade connector

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looks like the red spade goes to the earth terminal (as well as the brown)

POST 14Original post

This was mine when I put a Cup wheel on to replace the OEM airbag wheel. I do not recall the little black box connector you have. Once you get the additional pieces off there are two large connectors: Red - horn Yellow - airbag Brown with black spade connector - earth connector (?) This may assist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHZFz1M5rDE His poor connections with the copper ring can be cured by bending the copper connector on the connecting 'L' piece so that it sits more proud. POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, yep got it all on sorted! The yellow stitch/marker don't match my interior/car colour 🤦"â™‚️ so wasted some time and money 😤
