Bosch S5 do have a 5 year warranty, and I have had a few swapped under that.

Off hand i would lean towards a discharge or more likely a starter motor thats old and needs replacing from your description .

Suggestion
Discharge test must be read After 1hr as for the first 40 mins or so there is a lambda burn off so you will have the best part of 1 amp recorded which is normal .
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Basically a £50 cost to say what's wrong rather than chucking a battery on and still having issues .
Hello
I've been looking at various batteries for my 996 as it keeps on dying and I really don't think this sudden change of temperature is helping!
Can someone please tell me if the Bosch S5010 Starter Battery: Type 110 will fit the 996 without any modifications?
Also the spec is showing as 85Ah. Will this be too much..?
Link to the battery below:

Thanking you in advance
No it will be fine. I booted out a nearly new battery and replaced it with the Bosch one your looking at and has been spot on. The one on the car originally was some make I had never heard of.
Beware though cable/earth/starter solinid problems are much talked about on the site Make sure it is actually a battery problem and not something else. If you search the forum you will find threads about problems starting, usually when the car is hot.
Might just be a duff battery, might not.
Hi
Thanks for the reply
I have heard of the cable going over to the battery going bad
My car does have a poor start or weak start when warm but at the moment it can't even start it when the car is cold. I'm having to use a booster all the time
I wanted a ctek on it but the car lives on the drive so not sure how I'd organise the power.
Got a solar charger which turned out to be pretty useless
I may have a drain but not sure where to start with that. Looked at the glove box light and that does turn off. The frunk light has never actually worked. Unsure if it's a bulb or connection issue
Thanks
To be honest a battery that's not screwed for lack of a better word, should be fine if the alternator is charging and there is no drain. Most starting problems are caused by other things, usually bad wiring/starter motor problems.
Can i suggest you get your local garage to do a battery , charge and discharge test to locate the issue as a first start .
It will soon show if you need a battery or if its a discharge issue which is flattening it .
Discharge test must be read After 1hr as for the first 40 mins or so there is a lambda burn off so you will have the best part of 1 amp recorded which is normal .
I would expect a charge of 30 mins for this test with further cost if a discharge is found and needs to be located .

Oh wow thank you so much for the replies
The starter does sound like something I'd like to take a look at. Could be weak being the original one
Are banner batteries original equipment?
Original batterys were Moll .. they weren't very good but have been replaced by what we call the red top .. these are much better .. but cost a lot .. still Moll .
Bosch are very good batterys and what we use at work but i wouldn't discount
Yuasa batterys .
Banner batterys are the latest Porsche use .. EN 800 on the 991 and onwards .
Yuasa batteries do always come up on the search but I was looking for something with a bigger AH
The light in the frunk doesn't seem to be on and I can't find the connector for it. I may open it up as I fear it may have been disconnected due to a drain..?
Thanks
It's not uncommon for the bonnet light to be disconnected and for no real reason .. the switch on these tends if faulty to stay in the closed position .. people just disconnect it as they think it might be at fault .
All i can say is that in 18 years this has never been a cause of a discharge that i have seen !
Never say never though lol .
800 EN
380 Din
760 EN
All are good batterys .
True. I'll still try and dig out the frunk light connector cable. Had a quick fumble around tonight but only felt a bar.... Sounds a bit dodgy that 😜
I may end up with a yuasa If it's better than Bosch
I made up an extension cable with a flat 2 female socket box on the end. it fits through the letterbox and is used to top up one of the cars overnight if needed.
