I replaced the AOS on my 02 986 S a few years ago and don't remember there being any coolant lines involved.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm a bit confused after reading the AOS technical article on this site in addition to various forum posts. Hopefully this is a simple question with a simple answer, but I couldn't find it in all the posts, etc. I read. In what scenarios does the AOS have coolant lines associated with it and why? I replaced the AOS on my 02 986 S a few years ago and don't remember there being any coolant lines involved. I was doing some research on the 996 AOS since I believe one of the vent hoses is dripping oil down onto my motor (04 C4S), and found reference to coolant lines. What's the deal? Thanks everyone!

POST 2Original post

The 986 use a "dry" AOS, the 996 have water circulating in them.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I see, thanks JFP. Is the purpose just to cool the air down before being recirculated into the intake manifold?

No, to warm the AOS up so it works more efficiently.
