Well, it should cost about $400-$500 for the Dension unit, whereever you source it, then you install it yourself (make sure you install it in the chain AFTER the CDR unit, as the install supplement for Porsche says that's in the files section) and follow the cdr-23\24 pin settings that's pins 1,2,3 set to off and pin 4 set to on, make sure it's running software version 1.0.

As far as control, are you able to only jump forward and back through songs or can you change to a different playlist using the HU controls?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I emailed BumperPlugs a few days ago and they replied that it was still in the works, any day now.
As an aside, they replied to my email about 5 minutes after I sent it. That kind of rapid response is fantastic. As soon as the compatiblity issues are resolved I will be buying.
Good question.
I believe that there are two other members who have gotten the Dension unit working with their CD24's presumably by getting the dealer to reprogram the car to recognize a CD changer on the MOST bus. You'll have to do a search to find out more.
The problem with that route (I think) is that song titles, etc. are not displayed. The only way you know what is playing is to look at the iPod. This is what the people at Dension are working on now.
I'm one of those people. It cost $900CDN, it was done at the dealer (Pfaff Porsche in Toronto) and I have no idea what it involved, but I can listen to my iPod and control it through my headunit while it sits in the glovebox.
I have the CDR24 with no external CD player.
Dont' ask me how it works, but it does. Just way too much money IMO.

I'm not 100% guaranteeing this, but there's really no other way Pfaff Porshche would've gotten the unit to work.

Does the HU display the song title or does it just display a CD # and Track # (like you had a CD changer attached)?
As far as control, are you able to only jump forward and back through songs or can you change to a different playlist using the HU controls?
We had the BMW iPod adapter and it was setup to look like a 6 disc CD changer to the HU. It allowed us to play from 6 different play lists, "BMW1" through "BMW6" with the last one being all of the songs on your iPod. The HU would just display the CD# and the Track# which was fine. If this is what your setup is displaying now then I will probably stop waiting and buy the unit right away. This changing the CD every 45 minutes is a major hassle.
It just displays CD# and Track # as though there were a CD changer attached. For some reason there are always the numbers 3,4 there as well, but it says it's playing off CD#5. I've tried to make different playlists but it doesn't seem to be able to select them. Also if I want to put it on random play I have to select RP on the headunit every time i start the car which is the only minor annyoance. Other than that it works great. I just put about 500 songs on my iPod and let it pick them at random. The only other thing I find a bit annoying (and this is the fault of the iPod) is that it seems to pick the same songs a lot.
hawc,
make more playlists, number all of them. then hold down 6 for more than 3 seconds, then press down >>, then hit the track forward button as you are now scrolling through your playlists, get to the number you want and hit fast forward again to select the playlist. You're just going to have to remember the number you want.
Also, if you want to be able to control your iPod just from the iPod itself, I can figure out the sequence of buttons for that, but I don't know where your iPod is located, so you might not want that.

Wow Suneet
, I don't even want to know how you figured that one out!?!
I would like to know exactly what the reprogrammed Dension unit would do to make things a little easier. I will email them and see what they say. Hopefully I can report back soon.
Fafnir, it works in hawc's car, it should work in yours.
Zoomee... I put three and three together, the Dension Porsche install supplement specifically says cdr23 AND cdr24 and gives instructions for the headunit, then I read on ******** that all those with cdr23 units had to have the unit programmed to recognize, and then hawc reported that his dealer in fact got his Dension unit working with the cdr24, just no text display.
- Suneet
Fixed, resolved, whatever....it's done and ready to go!
If you have the CDR24 head unit, no text displays, but all other functionality is working. We will send information for all who have ordered, or will order, just let us know that it's a CDR24.

We have over 25 buyers who were part of the original group buy and have rested in limbo while this got worked out.
BUT, as a caveat to my earlier post, what we're doing now is installing two GW500's in CDR24 equipped Porsches (one east coast, one west) to see exactly how it goes other than the car that just completed.
When that is confirmed, we'll feel a bit more confident.
Porsche really blew it using the CDR24 since they knew it did not support text readout, and that really blows for all the CDR24 folks. But we'll do the best we can to answer all the q's once this blows over in the next week or so.
You can still order the GW500 on our order page if you were not part of the group buy, and it's still on there at below list price.
Thx.
Hawc:
Hi, I'm a fellow Canadian and new Cayman owner, also fussing with iPod solution. I understand you had Pfaff do your work for their $900. My question is whether you also had Bluetooth install, and if it works OK?
I followed Suneet's Dension install guidelines and had the Dension gateway mounted behhind the PCM. The provided iPOD and USB cables are just long enough to reach the rear center console bin, though there is only a couple of inches of slack. I imagine that you could do a similar install behind the CDR unit, but am not sure.
Subsequently, I've ordered an iPOD dock cable extender from CableJive to attach to the connector in the rear center console to give me more flexibility with the iPOD. If I were to do it again, I would have purchased the correct mini DIN cable to add between the Gateway and the supplied iPOD cable.
Gateway 500 and CDR24
Have just tried to have this unit installed in UK with CDR24 with no luck, unit was removed but I would be grateful for the information in order to get it fitted and running.
I was on the original list and just got the email from Eric. I'm kind of disappointed about the lack of text support. My BMW's and MINI's had text support with their $199 Icelinks. My Audi doesn't have text support either with Icelink but it's easier to swallow for the $149 I spent versus the much higher priced Gateway unit. I sure like having Ipod connectivity but at least so far don't listen to the radio in the Cayman that much anyway...
