Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I am hoping that he will be able to replicate your installation with the Dension unit installed behind the PCM with the iPOD and USB cables in the center console.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Great article Ken! Thanks for taking the time to document the process so well. While I am not confident enough to attempt this installation myself, I will give a copy of your article along with Suneet's to my installer.
Thank you.
Ken, where are you getting the ipod extension cable?
I've read on ******** any DIN printer serial extension cable does the trick, the kind used to attach things to older macs, available through radio-shack or similar...
- Suneet
Suneet,
Here is what I just ordered:
StockCable.com
Mini Din Extension Cable, Female 8 pin Mini Din to Male 8 pin Mini Din, 10 feet long, PN: C58160B-10, $8.55 each.
Also here (but currently out of stock)
CablesToGo.com
10ft 8 PIN MINI-DIN M/F SERIAL EXTENSION CABLE $9.99
I believe the ******** thread directly referenced the cable from CablesToGo, but the first one appears to be the same and is cheaper.
Yea, that's what I had in mind. I don't really need one since I placed mine behind the headunit and the one included reaches fine. I just wanted to make sure kman-S didn't order one from Dension for lots of $$$. - Suneet
I ordered the cable just in case my installer needs it. I am hoping that he will be able to replicate your installation with the Dension unit installed behind the PCM with the iPOD and USB cables in the center console.
I figure the cable may be needed if they prefer installing the Dension under the bonnet. If I don't need it, I'll send it to someone here who does.
Bose without PCM compatibility
Thanks for the article. I appreciate the detailed instructions. 2 questions though:
Does this unit work with the Bose without PCM?
If so, do you know if you can navigate using the CDR 24 display?
Thanks
The Dension does not currently support the CDR-24 with or without Bose. Dension is supposedly working on a firmware update which will allow it to function with the CDR-24. There are many posts on this topic to search through.
Ken - you may want to add that the PCM is a prerequisite in your article or note that CDR-24 support may follow at a later time.
I thought I read a post that had detailed instructions on center console removal, but I can't find it now. KMan's install article refers to Suneet's for this detail and Suneet's to KMan's.
BTW- did anyone else get an IPOD cable extension in their kit like I did?
center console removal article is located in cosmetic mods, page 2 by kman S in the articles section. You don't have to remove it all the way to get the cables run, like i say in my article, just some bits and pieces and then fish the wire.
- Suneet
Yes as Suneet said, you need to go to the Cosmetic Mods section of the articles and find the article (on page 2 now I guess) on swapping the center console for center console removal, which Suneet says isn't necessary just to run that line to the center console storage area. I think it would be cool to make a custom ashtray replacement and slide the ipod down in there...
Ken, I thought about that too, something like a spring loaded dock. Pop the cover, slide the ipod in, and have a little springed eject button to push it back up. Too inventive for me though
. 2point5.com makes a dock that fits in the ashtray, but it gets in the way of shifting.
- Suneet
How much depth is under our ashtray? If the ipod fit deeper in that area then it wouldn't interfere with shifting, or is there enough length and depth that it could fit in sideways and then click into a dock, spring loaded or otherwise? I'll have to check it out, sounds like a job for some fabricators I know...
