Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think I have tuning fork knock on the front of my C2 so am just looking at replacements. Going to do the coffin arms at the same time while its up and in bits (I know the bolts are free) What is the maker of choice currently? I believe TRW are the OEM manufacturers but dont seem available. Meyle are readily available. What about Lemfà¶der? Car is a keeper and had all new shocks, springs and ARBs a couple of years ago followed by CG geo set up (which will need redoing). Whats the current thinking - pay the extra (whatever that is) and go to Porsche for the parts or aftermarket? I'm not averse to ordering from Autodoc. Regards Ian

POST 2Original post

You can buy oe from tielecar in Poland. I have bought literally every suspension component to do a full refresh and a lot of it like coffin arms and tuning forks came from them

POST 3Original post

Hi Ian As you know, I did a complete refresh too and bought some of the parts from Spyder, try them too. Meyle are also worth considering. The only parts I didn't replace are the rear upper arms. CG's advice was that the aftermarket parts they had seen were not good, the factory parts are expensive and they rarely need replacing.

POST 4Original post

Hi - I did a complete refresh on my C2 and used Meyle components with all genuine bolts direct from OPC with club discount. Really impressed with the quality of the parts so wouldn't have a problem in recommending. The TRW droplinks were the only only brand exception to the above. Sourced from various suppliers but D911 and Fraserpart were both competitive (with discount codes!) and easy to deal with. Only oddity I had was the bolts for the rear upper arms, ended up with superseded 997 parts and the bolts weren't quite the same. Fortunately the ones coming off had owt wrong with them so simply reused those, possibly me cocking up the order as I was drowning in part numbers by this point! If you get stuck on parts no's I'd be happy to try and help

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone. I've phoned the OPC and awaiting their call with the damage! In my research last night I found that ZF own Sachs, TRW, Boge and Lemfà¶rder so if TRW are OEM, one would assume any parts from these brands will be of similar quality or even the same part! Ian

POST 6Original post

I used Meyle who seemed pretty good. They also do a kit which includes nuts and bolts which can be very useful if you don't feel the need to get Porsche fixings.

POST 7Original post

I used the Spyder Performance coffin arms and tuning forks. All been fine so far. With the exception of the eccentric bolts I just measured the old bolts and bought identical replacements from a fixings supplier. They came in a bag but didn't have an expensive Porsche sticker on the front.

POST 8Original post

I've been happy with the spyder performance arms I fitted about 18 months ago. I figured that as my car does low mileage during a typical year and the labour is my own I was unlikely to wear them out so took the punt. Quality wise they looked absolutely fine and I could replace them a few times over for the price of other brands.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The nice man from the OPC phoned - coffin arms £250 & tuning fork £161 Both plus vat but less club discount if you're in one!

POST 13Original post

Well the Spyder arms were £150 + VAT.... for a set of 4. I'll send you a PM.

POST 14Original post

So over £1600 from Porsche I paid £395 for a full set of coffin arms and tuning forks from Spyder Performance via eBay. No issues so far. If they don't last as well as the Porsche stuff it's no great issue. Now all the bolts are new I can remove and replace parts in minutes.

POST 15Original post

Been contemplating this as well, and as much as I want to go with OEM, it's very unlikely due to the cost. I only do 2000-3000km a year, so even if the aftermarket ones last 30kkm I'm still going to get 10 years of service out of them for 1/5 of the cost of the OE Porsche ones. It's just too bad my go-to aftermarket brands TRW and Lemfà¶rder don't seem to be available for the 996 apart from track rod ends, which I've already done, and tie rods.
