Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all My car (2000 C2) didnt come with Bose so no subwoofer but recently I picked up a Bose subwoofer box thats sits behind the rear seats. Had some issues with fitting it so wanted to ask for some pointers. First, when I fitted the brackets either side I saw that I would need to cut the carpet that sits over the area under where the subwoofer would sit. The carpet and backing foam in this area is pretty thick. Do I just cut a slot into the carpet all the way though? Does anyone have a photo of how the factory carpet is around these brackets? The other issue is the fitment. I placed the box onto the brackets but saw that the box doesnt fit further back enough to meet the hump at the rear. Not the clearest photo but theres a gap between the box and the hump over the engine. Is there a difference in this area with 996.1 and 996.2? I think the box came from a 996.2 but not sure Hoping someone can clear things up regarding this Thanks

POST 2Original post

I'm not sure about how it goes around the brackets. What I did do was take a few pics for your reference:

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you! so it looks like the hump over the engine already kicks in on the corner to match the back edge of the subwoofer? Or unless the box sits over the engine hump? Mines straight on mine and when the brackets are fitted, it doesnt sit up against the engine hump

I think your aft "hump" cover is different. I took out my rear seats, and "want" to move the Bose subwoofer up on top of that aft engine cover, and then put a flat package shelf extending out over where the rear seats used to be (kinda like the GT3) But that is a "want" not a "need"... If anyone ever finds one of these: Please let me know! Paul

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yea its seems to be different as I found theres a different part number for the later cars for this carpet piece. I guess the earlier cars never had the option for the Bose subwoofer behind the seats?

POST 6Original post

I had to pull all of that out when I first got my 996, to get to the computer and relays, because of multiple intermittent error codes. It turned out to be a mouse.

Ooooo bet that wasn't fun to sort and clean! Thanks for that photo though as I can see that you have mounting studs for the subwoofer brackets and in my case I have just short bolts that go into one of those rubber grommets with a threaded insert that are inserted into the bracket the cover plate screws in to

POST 8Original post

Here is another pic that may help you (shows the mounting bracket on those studs) If I remember correctly, the bottom of the subwoofer slides UNDER that upside down U shape, and then is held aft by the screw

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
