I have the PCM and would like to know from fellow PCM owners if they also feel that the system speed is a bit slow. I have a BMW nav system on my 2004 X5 and it seems quicker. Am I perhaps missing a setting somewhere?
I would dearly appreciate if thread does not descend into TomTom/Navman etc is better than the PCM.
I have PCM 2.1 in my Cayenne S and I have actually been pretty surprised at the speed of the system; both in calculating the route and re-calculating an alternate route if you deviate from the original route.
What is slow to you, as I am not familiar with the BMW navigation systems?
when driving, and especially on roundabouts, it gives the direction when I'm virtually on the turn as opposed to a short while before. I suppose I could get used to it, but the BMW one is a bit quicker in offering the direction. Also the voice on the
Porsche
sounds very elctronic. The advantage is that I can choose a different gender. I use a female voice (default).
To me the PCM 2.1 Nav in my CS seems to be a tad faster than my
pioneer
AVIC D2 in another car. They are both DVD based systems, but the PCM 2,1 have better mapping, track a bit more accurate & obviously with a bigger screen. Very happy with it.
I have an E46
M3
with nav, so its a bit of the older kind and I have tried quite a bit of the CS and
911
PCM nav. The
porsche
one was definitely faster, map zooming in and out, interactivity, route calculation seems a bit faster as well. To me the PCM seem more responsive. Definitely will get it when its my turn for that CS.. can't wait...
Glad that people wth PCM 2.1 feel the same way, as that is not the norm with other members. Programming the PCM is a bit of a pain, & the absent of Bluetooth & Voice Rec is disappointing. But the look & feel of the PCM 2.1 is second to none compare to any other car maker.
