Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If you look at car ownership over the long term, you will always do better 'self-insuring' than buying 20 years worth of warranties at £1000 a pop (unless you are the unluckiest buyer around, and don't bother checking cars out before buying on impulse!)
Leading evidence: 'Check cars out' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check cars out' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Thanks - I put up a thread earlier about recommended specialists in my area.

They have offered me the existing warranty policy or I can take the new one however Im still not sure as I reckon I will only be doing about 5K a year and if, for example, I had a leaking radiator, would just get it repaired by an Indy, if I can find one locally!
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sorry for all these newbie questions its just that Im back in the market for an early 996TT, whereas previously Ive always owned newer cars and only ever dealt with main dealers.
So Im doing things slightly different this time, therefore I will require the purchase of a warranty but this time considering an aftermarket one.
Question: Is it really worth it or shall I stick with the genuine Prosche warranty? If it is worth it, bearing in mind Im wanting to purchase a TT, which one is recommended :?:
Aplogies if this subject has been 'done to death' but I did do a search! :?
Will they not renew it after 9 years even if it has a current OPC warranty?
If not (and thinking ahead), back to my original question - Which is the best aftermarket warranty which will cover a car more than 9 years old?
On a TT, the best warranty you can get is simply regular servicing at a reputable Porsche independent like JZM who will be able to identify early signs of potential problems which may occur down the road. Prevention is better than cure.
The money saved at an independent over an OPC will more than pay for an annual OPC warranty, plus you'll get preventative early diagnosis of any issues. OPCs just fit parts to your car, and they lack thorough diagnosis skills.
Not much goes wrong on well maintained TTs.
All imho.
For me personally, a warranty is vital :thumb:
If you are buying private, anything can go wrong and probably will, and unless you buy off a VERY reputable Indy, after you have left that show room very little can be done in terms of small claims.
Its all piece of mind at the end of the day, and 99% of aftermarket warranties are really worth the paper they are printed on, and even if they will pay up there is usually a claim limit of say £1500, which on a 911 isn't much when things start to go wrong even if the actual fault is covered at all
There are plenty of cars for sale out there, do your homework and ask the questions on the viewing and try your best to buy with OPC warranty
ESPECIALLY BEFORE OCTOBER!!!!!!
At the end of the day, any aftermarket warranty is simply a very expensive
insurance
premium, that the provider makes a great deal of money out of...
If you look at car ownership over the long term, you will always do better 'self-insuring' than buying 20 years worth of warranties at £1000 a pop (unless you are the unluckiest buyer around, and don't bother checking cars out before buying on impulse!)
So effectively, used car warranty is doing no more than insuring against cash-flow problems...
Much better to deposit the premium somewhere where it will get a return (or use it to get a new/newer car that already has a warranty from the manufacturer).
Hi,
My 996tt has been with me 4 months. 2002, 29k, FPSH, and warranty. Brilliant car, bought privately from a reputable accountant who had just been through a similar mid life crisis.
Few weeks ago, leaky radiator. Told by OPC to phone Porsche Assist, offered time of my choosing for them to collect car, and profuse apologies that they would not be able to provide a porsche replacement for the likely time in the local OPC (could only give a BMW, Jag or Merc!!). New rad within 48 hours and car returned (and valeted).
Cost = £0
Porsche warranty - a must have (even at £1500) for true peace of mind.
Ok - a mixed bag of opinions, as expected. One thing clearly stands out - You either have OPC warranty or nothing!
Porsche Reading have the car at the moment to carry out service and pre-purchase inspection. Ive just spoken to them and they said they are amazed at the condition of the car and apart from routine service items can see no real issues with it. They also confirmed that the early 996TT engines don't suffer with the same issues as the later engines and there was no evidence of the usual suspects!
They have offered me the existing warranty policy or I can take the new one however Im still not sure as I reckon I will only be doing about 5K a year and if, for example, I had a leaking radiator, would just get it repaired by an Indy, if I can find one locally!
:?
I personally have gone the OPC route, but many on the Pistonheads forum are chatting about the Tesco finest warranty - apparently it is very very good.....
Have a look to find out more.
