It very much depends who repaired it, I've seen one very heavily damaged repaired superbly by the right people (£200k repair).

I do have a suction cup holder for my board somewhere (which I used once as the Americans only tested it up to a speed of sth like 70mph, which was just annoying and I did not want the whole contraption to fly off and some poor guy gets a snowboard through his windshield....)

I use standard 3.2 carrera shafts with 380 bhp and revs as quick as a bike engine, shafts take it well.993 gt2 shafts similar size but gun barrelled with larger bearings,580bhp,shafts still take the grunt and spin the wheels,No harder starts than hillclimbs on soft tyres.

Nothing, it's only the slipping that wrecks them. Dumping or sidestepping no issues.
Mega lap, bumped into him a few weeks ago and he let slip the lap time.
Looked a bit sketchy at 8:32 in the compression at Tiergarten, dab of oppo. at 250kmh!

Indeed, and it's held back with the original Sachs dampers vs modern ones and a decent geo.

Jorg wasn't going sideways like you!
Amazing time, considering it’s just tyres and then track development. Although as Hawkeye/Isaldiri says… probably a bit misleading to have a Bergmeister lap in amongst Gebhardt laps.
Bravo in any case. The car definitely deserved to get its second chance on modern rubber. A perennial question answered.

Na,250bhp on road tyres wont be a issue, even on proper hillclimb supersoft tyres i only know of one driveshaft that broke through a spiral fracture on a old 911 with a 20 year old drive shaft when side stepping the clutch at 6000 rpm.If concerened get the drive shafts gunbarrel drilled, good for 600bhp then.
Those original cgt michs gave me nightmares winter time.
Great driving by herr bergmeister, surprised how much he used 2nd gear, its well planted every where and very stable down the straight, wicked.

The original 7:32 Supertest time was done by Von Sauma. Gebhardt wasn't around then. For comparison, the official factory time by Walter Rohrl, equalled in a later test by Marc Basseng, was 7:28.

Yeah. I just edited the post.
Gebhardt is usually 5-10 slower than official lap times from manufacturers.

Yep, as you say above pre 2011/12 the laps were of course von sauma (his last laps were around the time of the 4.0rs i think?), i just didn't want to overgeek things. Gebhardt is a bit faster than von sauma was I remember being told by some locals (well given the age differential you'd have hoped so!) as well fwiw....

overly long gearing - just like a manual gt4
Wonderful to see.
Would love to see a lap with the KW suspension and geo that many of us are running now - car definitely looked limited by pitch and roll.
And a cool way to advertise that Porsche has some belief in its new suspension parts (Jorg I understand signed off on them!).

Would be far quicker on your modern dampers. Sub 7 mins I reckon which is incredible for a 20 year old hypercar.

Not on your own mate, one guy i would not sit next to.Whats the point of his video bar it could go faster, which is fair enough.
I get making your own car how you want it with some improvements, but dont change the character of the car,not everyone wants the perfect ring set up,some body roll can be good.
The car does have limited areo compared to some of the mass production about or racers,it s a beautiful classic now with great improvement just from the tyres showing how good it was 20 years ago and still is with out changing anything else on it.

It does show how much modern cars have moved the game on at least in terms of laptimes. the factory porsche lap for the 991.2 gt3 (without cup2r) was 7:12.7 with the 992 gt3 (with cup2r) on 6:55.something (t13 time for a like for like although the 'official' time was 6:59.X being the full competed lap). Obviously that's with all the fancy modern stuff like dual clutch boxes, fancy differential, torque vectoring et al plus are factory prepped within an inch of their lives for a timed run but equally, they are in theory less optimal engine layout and down almost 100PS vs the older gt which does have at least as much if not more df than the 991.2 gt3 and is probably just a tiny bit lighter.
Whether that extra speed however has come at the price of driver enjoyment in actually driving said cars at what I call 'normal driver' speed (as let's face it 99+% aren't going to be able to wring a car out like Estre/Kern/Bergmeister...) though is a different question though but.... it's certainly objective progress PAG have made over the years fwiw.
P.S i wonder if sport auto might start to make this a thing to stick cup2s on an older car and send it for a superlap.... would really like to see what the 7,2 rs (irrespective whether 4.0 or not) (7:32 3.8rs/7:27 4.0) would do today given a new set of Cup2s with the track also having gotten faster over the years......
Slippery slope!
But might be good to take a sample of cars for actual runs and then derive a correction factor on a progressive scale from older(greater) to newer(lesser)

This is most likely related to the recent CGT recall.
Porsche wanted to clean the CGT bad reputation from the past. The original tires werent that good even in 2004.

There is nothing wrong with a win-win ... the owner gets a sorted car and Porsche get to know their owners and prospective customers for the new car, better.
Speculation ... how would the old suspension components which were replaced (with titanium ones at $100k+ cost) due to prospective issues, have coped with the higher loads of the new Cup2 tyres ? A question not asked ...

The parts didn't cost near what he's alluding to, and they are not titanium. The wishbones are identical in design, and dimensions, with the exception of the material used in the spherical joints including chromium and molybdenum, which again are of the same dimensions. As usual, misinforamation being bandied about!
If the old wishbones were not cracked (only two cars had this out of circa 1270) they would have been fine, I've done 100+ laps at the 'ring and many other circuits on the original wishbones and Cup 2's.

Same goes for the F50, but less so as that was always a bit more expensive. damn by now I would be able to post on here about how it was to daily a CGT for 9 summers and 100k+ km [FF would have stayed for winter duty - can't fit my snowboard in a CGT].
Now I need to bet on a lottery win coming in (does not need to be a big one, just enough to buy the CGT - free money etc)
argh
all you guys who own one - enjoy and know that I am really quite jealous (in a positive way)....
still my unicorn due to incompetence

I will definitely post a pic of it on a mountain in the snow somewhere once the win comes in (got to think positive.... manifesting it or whatever crap people call that). I do have a suction cup holder for my board somewhere (which I used once as the Americans only tested it up to a speed of sth like 70mph, which was just annoying and I did not want the whole contraption to fly off and some poor guy gets a snowboard through his windshield....)
If we extrapolate this concept;
How close do we think a 997 / 991 could get to their equivalent 992 (S / GTS / GT3) with a modern set of tires and shocks?

I said this earlier in the thread…

Sorry. I missed that.
I genuinely don’t want to dispose of my 991.1 Carrera S as the last N/A model with four seats and a manual box.
This could be quite an interesting proposition
All you gents who own a CGT - how do you feel about a car that has had 4 services and accident damage (tbc where it was repaired) - is this still a viable car or would you be insane to pay a lot of money for that (all of them are a lot of money, just a question of how much I guess). And where do you think the value difference is between a car with a +/- acceptable service history and no accidents vs. one that is NOT up to standard? I do not necessarily mind missed services or accident damage (if it was repaired properly) - it is just a car after all, but it should impact what I have to pay by a certain amount ...

If it's been repaired properly and the price reflects it, then it's one to clock up a lot of miles in.
It very much depends who repaired it, I've seen one very heavily damaged repaired superbly by the right people (£200k repair).
Drop me a PM if you like.

Is it higher mileage? I was offered one similar by Octaine a couple of years ago. I kick myself now as I could have traded my SV and a small amount of cash for it.

it is lowish mileage but non UK
This gives you an indication of values (this sold on Tuesday) and appears to be worse damage wise.

Depends what you think alot of money is,they need a careful inspection by the folk who truly know.
From my race car experience with alloy suspension etc,the parts either need a xray or replacing if components have had any impact, the tub even more so.The credibility of the repairer would have a effect on value,eg porsche classic etc.

MDL - as ever, 993rsr is pretty much spot on. The only other thing I suppose is how much requirement there is to sell it on later that you want to keep in mind. The repairer concerned would be my main issue (and price obviously for it) but 993rsr knows vastly more about the things and would be much better placed to give you a considered opinion. Good luck with the search anyway.

Thank you - they want 7 digits for it (euros) I told them it needs to be much lower than that. I have not seen the repair invoice yet, so don’t know who repaired it / what was done

I should have bought that car - stupid me

You and me both - stupid idiots for not buying that - c’est la vie
I still have a list somewhere from 2014 of all the CGTs for sale in Europe - I think the range was like 265 to 400 k and call it 320 upwards for clean low mileage cars

Thank you - I think if I can find the money somewhere / increase my mortgage etc, I will be buried in the car so resale is not that much of a concern, but at the same time I do not want to overpay … it is a lot of money and paying it off will take a long time …

Out in mine today about 80 miles off 100,000 KLMs. After about a year I knew I was smitten with the GT, I said to my wife please bury me in that car. She said can we do it this weekend

Sounds like a plan - let’s hope I get a few years out of it before being buried …
I did crash my GT2 in spectacular fashion … don’t think I will get that lucky twice

First decent drive out in 2025 today, couple of hundred miles to the Bicester Scramble. Clicked 100,000 klms on the way, despite the weather the car was fantastic fun to punt along:

Imagine what the 918 would do with modern tyres.
The CGT is an incredible car, proper dream motor.
The 918 was fitted with Cup 2 from the get go.

Wasn't a yellow one on the way back from Goodwood, was it?
