My local OPC quoted £2,100 for the switchable PSE and so hence I went to Camtune who fitted the same thing for less.

Trouble is with OPCs (or any franchised dealer for that matter) the time stated for the job assumes that they feed the wires correctly into the loom, replace grommets, pull up carpets and trim and replace connectors, yada, yada, yada...

I know it sounds dumb but just want to be sure, as I keep toying with the idea of changing the exhaust but am unsure about non-PSE.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

G'day! any pointers for the best/cheapest place to get the switchable porsche sports exhaust brought and fitted? East anglia or south east preferable, cheers

POST 2Original post

I always thought the best place for a PSE was attached to the engine at the rear :floor:

POST 3Original post

Camtune have just done mine for £1,580 all-in including VAT and labour. I asked for mine to be non-switchable.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yup, saw your post on PH which is what got me thinking. Local OPC quoted me £1700 for switchable one.........

POST 6Original post

Clevers, so does that mean your permantly in 'good' mode. I know it sounds dumb but just want to be sure, as I keep toying with the idea of changing the exhaust but am unsure about non-PSE. Simon

POST 7Original post

If you must have the switch try getting someone like Sid at RSJ to supply and fit. Or you could source the kit from Porscheshop at a reasonable price and get your local indy to fit. It's not really that complicated, just time consuming. If you don't want the switch and want it always on and want a cheap but just as effective option try the 'PSE hack' or 'muffler bypass', do a search on here for info.

POST 8Original post

There's at least two of us here that did the electrics install ourselves, at least it give you chance not to connect the pink/grey wire to the relay IIRC it only took an indy about 1hr to remove the old boxes and me 2-3 hours to do the electrics, having said that I did do about a weeks investigation and read the instructions/FAQs etc several times so I knew it pretty much like the back of my hand!

POST 9Original post

Still, 7 hours is alot of time for someone who should know the insides and electrics of a 911 (OPC). Surely it's a case of feeding the wires through the body work, connecting up to power and attaching the switch. Even swapping over the back boxes can't be that bad, it's more about getting access, like on a lift or similar.

POST 10Original post

Coffee, lunch and toilet breaks are obviously chargeable too!

POST 11Original post

Can we start charging for petrol (and time) to get to and from an OPC when a warranty piece is faulty?

POST 12Original post

Trouble is with OPCs (or any franchised dealer for that matter) the time stated for the job assumes that they feed the wires correctly into the loom, replace grommets, pull up carpets and trim and replace connectors, yada, yada, yada... and the times are set by somebody who only ever does this job once on each car (just to set the time). Then what really happens is the experienced technician works like crazy, knows all the short-cuts, and finishes in a couple of hours (if he's lucky and careful and doesn't break anything (that you would ever find out about))- having earned himself a whopping bonus for the 3 or 4 hours that both you and the next couple of customers have all paid for twice over! Indy will do what we would do ourselves and poke the wire through the existing grommets, curse and swear as we skin our knuckles feeding it under bits of trim and carpets, use a scotchlock connector when applicable, etc. :thumb: and then just charge for the time it actually took them to do it (hopefully).

POST 13Original post

That has been tried before  Got a token gesture of compensation, but they wouldn't pay for my time! So it was collection and delivery (with the fuel light on) with a courtesy car every time thereafter for warranty work :thumb: They paid for it in the end, one way or another!

POST 15Original post

Yes, mine is in good mode all the time. My local OPC quoted £2,100 for the switchable PSE and so hence I went to Camtune who fitted the same thing for less. I am now driving with the windows down and stereo off everywhere.
