If they've included a new pin set for front & rear, that will add another £60 to the price.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi folks
Need new pads pretty much all round and have been quoted £245 including fitting for my 53 Targa from an Indy. Generic parts, pads only.
2 questions!
- Is there any meaningful difference between full Porsche parts and generics?
- How does that price sound?
Many thanks amigos!
p.s. to anyone surfing these forums thinking about buying, just do it, every drive you feel special!!!
If they are Textar pads you can't go wrong - same as Porsche, but in a Textar box instaed of Porsche. They cost about £60 from Eurocarparts, plus dampening plates at £9 each, plus sensors at £7 a pair (if required), so £245 seems a bit pricy to me, as it is only an hour's job.
Edit: Sorry - misread that (all round) - strike my comment about pricy!
The price looks pretty keen to me: the menu price on the Porsche web site quotes over £600 for a complete set of front and rear pads (fitted at a main dealer)... I seriously doubt that you will do better than that without fitting them yourself.
Nothing fundamentally wrong with non-Porsche branded pads: it is possible to buy the same item in a different box for significantly less. I think that the OE pads in a standard 996 are made by Textar but not sure.
(FWIW I use Pagids in mine).
You can buy a set of both front and rear Textar pads from the Porscheshop for about £105 and have sound knowledge that the jobs been done properly yourself.
as RH says euro carparts will do you the front pads including wires and dampes for around £90 inc vat..
i quoted some this morning for £140 including fitting and parts and vat
think you need to find another indy .
Thanks for all the views.
The price is £245 including VAT and labour for all 4 wheels, so looking at Porscheshop 2 sets of OE fronts and 2 rears only leaves about £50 margin for fitting which seems pretty reasonable to me.
I think they mentioned Ferodo as the one they can source quickly. Are these particularly keen? I saw something on another thread about these as performance brake pads - the braking has been a bit poor of late, but I don't want them ultra-keen either!
Cheers
245 all in for all 4 wheels is a bargain in my view. I think anyone saying thats expensive is thinking its for 1 axle.
Without direct experience of a 996 or Ferodo I would stick with the Textars myself. They are decent pads, the only shortcoming in my experience is they aren't very long lived on track.
