Had to resort to the local OPC who fixed it but the mechanism now engages with an almighty crunch as they didnt adjust the tension at all.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Afternoon all.
The Cabrio's roof started playing up today....towards the end of the closure cycle, the hook that locks into the header rail kept locking/unlocking, and the light on the instrument panel wouldn't go out.
Investigation shows that the hook is encased in plastic, some of which has cracked and broken off, as well as the very end piece of the hook. It was presumably the end piece of the hook that triggered the 'lock' into the header rail. I've managed to do a temporary repair that at least means the hood now locks properly, but I wondered if anyone knows if the part is available seperately.
I'd also thought a repair with something like 'plastic metal' might suffice, especially if I have to buy a complete hood to get a new hook!!
Pete
Good luck to you. I had a similar problem when the piece that the hook engages with broke off from the header rail. No one wanted to know as 'it never happens, you know'.
Had to resort to the local OPC who fixed it but the mechanism now engages with an almighty crunch as they didnt adjust the tension at all. So now I have to find someone to do that.
I think you'll have to get the whole piece replaced and would suggest you try a specialist trimmer if you can find one, who are used to taking the mechanisms apart. Seem to recall there is one down south that advertises in the back of the mags, but can't remember their name. Sure someone here knows. If you are up north like me, you might be stufed as I couldn't find anyone interested.
Hi.
I should have posted this sooner!
I scoured the parts catalogue and found the part number for what
looked
like the broken plastic cover for the metal hook....then I called the OPC in Sheffield (JCT600?) and spoke to a really helpful young guy in the parts department. He confirmed that I'd tracked down the right part,(and that he'd sold one only last month).....£11.70 plus £1.50 delivery.
Apparently, it slips over the hook and should be glued into place. It should arrive tomorrow, so I'll post an update when (if!) its fitted.
I also ordered the 2 seals ('gaskets' in the parts catalogue) that fit to the front edge of the rear windows, as they looked quite tatty and worn)....£7 per side, which I thought was very cheap...for Porsche parts!
Pete
Dont suppose either of you have a picture of these seals in situ?
Also, my cabrio hood has rubbed the paint on both the rhs and lhs where it meets the windscreen metal, leading to some minor corrosion. Either of you got that? I want to adjust it so that it doesnt close with so much force, but am not sure how to - any tips?
Josh
I'm not actually convinced that the seals ('gaskets') I've ordered are the right parts....a sad indictment of my ability to interpret exploded diagrams, no doubt!....as 7 quid seems
ludicrously
reasonable!
So...no jeering at the back when it all goes wrong...!
Pete
The parts came....and they're the right ones!
So, brimming with confidence....I tracked down the instructions from the workshop manual....and....all I've got to do is wait for SWMBO to come back from the latest trip to Meadowhell!!
I
think
I've attached the instruction sheet for you to look at...
seems
straightforward enough....
Pete
er....no...can't attach it for some reason... :?
Wasn't there some sort of 'movement' calling for a preservation order to be put on them? S'pose they'd have made an interesting 'wall of death' attraction....
Pete
Update.......
Don't get worked up....I've not got round to fitting the window seals yet....work is
such
an inconvenience!

will
