Has anyone done this and did it work? No CEL, does it mess with air-fuel mixture?
It will not unless you send you flash to Scott at Softronics. His
ECU
file is 10 times the data
points
as the OEM maps. What does that mean, smoother start up, smoother transitions between throttle on and off, all kinds of response curves for the different functions. I changed to
Soul
long tube catless
headers
with Johns help and that included Scott at Softronics. On a conference call with John at
Soul
and Scott at Softronics, we discussed my goals and how to achieve them. Including modifying Scotts existing maps to focus on matching the intake pulse to the
exhaust
pulses all the way to the Milltec
exhaust
.
"To make use of the high flow intake components,
Softronic
has developed an exclusive all new Motronics software tuning flash. This new software flash targets the higher volumetric efficiency of the intake and engine by completely retuning the remaining intake resonance valve, Vario Cam Plus, Ignition, and Fuel delivery maps. The results: Never before seen tire roasting increases in mid range torque and a nice extension to high RPM horsepower, all files are tested with 93oct and
exhaust
recommended." Quote from Scott's
987.1
race kit.
Scotts Race Kit consists of a 78 mm
GT3 throttle body
, intake manifold and
ECU
flash, which is connected to an EVOMS air intake system. Scott did adjust the maps to 1. maximize mid range torque, 2. off the line power response like the
Sprint booster
product produces and 3. full out power around 6800 rpm.
Scott also did confirm that the
O2 sensors
were turned off. Now, on start up, just the engine
ECU
smoothly adjusts it self to 800 rpm then down to 600 after about 30 seconds. The torque curve starts earlier and is flatter to over 6000. With the long tube catless
headers
, I now have much more lower end power and torque from this whole system.
I recently installed
Fabspeed
Catless Race
Headers
and I have a CEL. Seems like the only way to clear it is with an
ECU
Flash.
Give Scott at Softronics a call. He can turn off your cat
O2 sensor
, plus re map your whole
ECU
with 10 times the data
points
for smoother start up, smoother delivery and even faster throttle response. I got involved with Scott through my purchase of
Soul
Long Tube cat less
headers
. John at
Soul
connected me with Scott to layout an
ECU
upgrade to increase the mid range torque and add a faster throttle response like
Sprint Booster
does. I have had absolutely no regrets with this combo. The engine runs very well, especially if I use non ethanol 92 grade fuel which today is very costly.
Can you give a ball park on what that flash costs? I just picked up a 07
Cayman S
, with the TPC turbo kit and I was thinking about doing the intake on
headers
on it as well...
I know what I’d do with that turbo kit, that’s just me…
The only gripe about no cats… cold start rich smell….
Butch, that turbo kit has its own
ECU
kit by TPC. When you start changing their equipment, you can run into all sorts of engine problems with the pistons skirts and cylinder walls. Look back in P9 history and you will find at lest 3 guys who have this kit and now have motor issues. Please do not go over the 5 lbs/in of intake pressure. The more pressure, the hotter the combustion chamber is, keeping in mind that the
M97 engine
as a 11 to 1 combustion ratio.
These guys found out that they had a lot of metal like material in their oil filter from the piston skirts and cylinder walls. It was not magnetic so a combination of alumunium and matrix coatings. Not good. So, take it easy on your hybrid engine that was never developed to have 17 to 1 compression ratio for even short bursts of time. Long up hill full throttle busts at altitude is the death of this combo, as there is simply no additional cooling for the pistons. Wish I had a solution for you and your plans.
He ain’t lie’n…. ^
if you want a turbo cayman, buy a 996/997 TT motor and save yourself an expensive headache… an N/A flat six wasn’t built for boost… they have enough issues without adding to it… but hey, it’s your 25k
FWIW, I bought the car because it was super low mileage (36K). I'll mind my oil I guess and see that the the future holds. I did purchase it with the intent of going an LS swap. I do appreciate the information though guys/gals...
If that motor is running/good compression etc… yank that out and you can sell it for good money…. I’m not into V8 swaps into a
Porsche
myself, but it’s your car…
Butch, Think about the suspension and wheels/
tires
for the time being. You can PM one of our sponsers ArcFlash, Josh, who has a LT1 in his
987.1
car. He can assist you to fill in the blanks between a
M97 engine
and a Lt1-3 motor and what are the numerous steps to achieve a perfect result.
Good idea… learn from someone else. I think a Turbo motor out of a 996/997 would be an easier/cheaper road tho…
