Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

firstly hello to everyone on 911UK. this website helped greatly in my decision to buy a 996 C4 manual a few weeks ago. here's where i need help though... left my car parked up for a week while i went on holiday. got back gagging for a drive! knew about the remote cental locking shutting down after 5 days so went to unlock it with the key and it wouldn't open!! the key just refuses to move either way and the car remains locked outside my house. i'm waiting to cantact the dealer over this on monday morning but in the mean time i thought i'd throw it out to you all in case i'm missing something obvious!! thanks!

POST 2Original post

My first thought would be to try the obvious. As it has not moved for as few weeks and the weather has been so awful, try a squirt of WD40 in the barrel.

POST 3Original post

Hello, go on to Pistonheads there was a topic just like yours. The same thing happened.

POST 4Original post

Have you had a new door lock fitted at some point? When fitting a new lock it is easy for the blade on the end of the barrel not to be properly located in the lock mechanism. The way to get in is to use the emergency cable release on the front compartment (the alarm will go off), disconnect and reconnect the battery to wake up the alarm module from sleep mode, and you can then unlock it with the key remote.

POST 5Original post

This might be a silly suggestion but why not try opening the passenger door and gaining entry that way?

POST 7Original post

I never noticed that in the 18 months I had a 996 Another Porsche cost cutting exercise?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi - yep, i'm in. but only by luck!! i'd already tried a good squirt of WD40 to no avail. bought the car from cridford's, and for the record they have been excellent, so i got on the phone to them. basically ended up wiggling/tapping the key and eventually it moved. but only once! the strange thing is the door remained locked but the remote then worked?! so i got in but the lock is still well and truly jammed. taking it to cridford's tomorrow for them to look at it. it's all ok as long as i keep the remote locking active every five days - which is another excuse to go for a drive!! thanks for the replies.
