Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Mates, I’m in the process of getting my car ready for the first event of the year and will be installing some Cobra seats to the car. Some questions I have about this process: 1. Using the Foxwell NT530 , is there a way to disable the thorax airbag? 2. It will be my first time to remove/install seats on this car - after removing the OEM seats, do I just leave the seat connectors “disconnected” while the buckets are on? I know this will trigger the light on the dash but I guess this can be cleared by the Foxwell once I put the OEM seats come back - for yearly state inspections. 3. I’m not exactly sure how to disconnect the bottom seat connectors , can anyone direct me to a video in how to do so? I apologize for doing a duplicate post if this has been asked before. I’m fairly new to working on Porsches and want to learn this the right way. Thank you all.

POST 2Original post

On my 987.2 I was able to use the Foxwell NT530 to disable the thorax airbag (may have also disabled aws but not sure). You'll want to get to the programming menu for POSIP ( Porsche Side Impact Protection system) and everything is right there. After removing the seats just leave the connectors disconnected and after disabling the airbag clear the fault code should be all you need to do. As for how to disconnect the connectors I would take a look at Youtube as there are several videos that show this. Most likely you can figure it out once you have a better look at them.

POST 3Original post

Thank you. I did watch some videos and it made sense on how the connectors came off. I appreciate your time in answering, really. I was giving up hope as the forum can sometimes be very quiet here. Now on to figuring out how to disassemble the FVD rollbar so I can check some rattling in the back.

POST 4Original post

I actually did the coding prior to removing the oem seat which triggered the airbag light. Learned that if the ecu detects it was still plugged in but disabled it will throw the code. After removal I just cleared the light and all was fine.

POST 5Original post

Thank you. So for now, it stands that the sequence with installing aftermarket seats is as follows: 1. Disconnect Battery 2. Remove OEM seats, disconnect underseat connectors 3. Install aftermarket seats, leave underseat connectors disconnected (no place to connect to with most aftermarket seats, with exception of OEM GT3 seats w airbags) 4. Reinstall battery . THEN disable thorax airbags and THEN clear airbag lights through the Foxwell NT530 or similar. If it’s through the Foxwell , these can all be found on the POSIP Folder/menu. This sounds about right? I wanted to outline it clearly for the next person to see, in case. If they’re like me, clear cut steps will make this an easy DIY job. Thank you for the help again.

POST 6Original post

I transferred them over but I haven't used them. Most likely they are way too short so if you have a need to use them I would recommend going with the extended ones which will work better with your new seats.
