Hello Guys, can someone tell me ist the glass of the Hip Engine cover bended or straight? Wich version do you use? regards from germany
It is bent. It is the exact same shape as the stock part.
Do any of you have any DIY instructions for making a Clear Engine Cover? There is the version with the carpet. I would be interested in how this has been realized. The metal engine cover is completely removed and the dam cut out and plexiglass inserted? Does anyone have pictures of such a conversion? Greetings from Germany
I sure don't have any instructions. This item's construction seems like it is quite beyond my ability. The glass is actually a heat resistant lexan (though it does not get very hot when you drive) and the piece is curved with a rubber seal that fits very precisely. Even still, under very hard acceleration with the windows closed, you do get a little
exhaust
smell. For me the glass cover is a summer item only.
I have theorized that what this design really needs another piece of lexan that would replace the metal cover too. Something with a rubber seal, again, just like the metal cover. This would also requre complex compound curves, so I have no idea how you would make something like that either.
Personally I never cared for the look of the one with the carpet, but with that large black assembly piece that sits in there, I bet it might seal better.
If you have the technology to make one of these, please take pictures and show us how.
Tschüss
does anyone know how thick the glass is
Hi Quickshot,
I have the Strut King Glass engine cover, It is very quiet and is about 30 lbs un weight. I had the rubber surround covered in faux carbon fiber vinyl,,check out strut king website. The glass cover is well made and is equal or better than stock.
They have a reconditioned one for $ 600.00. I paid $ 900.00 years ago. I love my engine cover.
.
Wow lowrider, that looks great.
It's not an engine worth showing off, ugly.
I agree it is an ugly engine, that is precisely why I want to show it off. It's so utilitarian German that it just seems perfect to me.
It's a beautiful engine. (in the eye of the beholder)
Or at least it is unique in both its architecture AND its location in the vehicle. It certainly will spark a conversation if others can SEE it.
What's not beautiful about
That's not what you see though. You see plastic inlet manifolds that aren't symmetrical. Look like they belong on a Korean car from the mid 90's.
We understand completely that you don't want to see it. 🤣
Hey I'm ugly too, this could be why I feel such a kinship with my
Cayman
engine.
My
987.1
motor is way more interesting to look at than that mug I see in the mirror every morning.
Can you please let me know where to order this? I am new gear and have been trying to find this part.

One thing to note is that the website is not 'secure'.
I ordered my engine cover from them through that website and had no issues.
