Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi my oil pressure guage on my 996 52 plate c2 cab seems to be playing up, it rungs at 5 on idle and then just drops some times for a few seconds and the warning light comes on. then its fine again at 2.5 to 3.5. Other times it just goes out for longer periods of time. I have heard there is common faulty switch that causes this is this correct and what is it. The car runs fine and smooth. Can any advise. thanks

POST 2Original post

Most likely thing is the oil pressure sender - it's fairly common, and not too expensive to fix.

POST 3Original post

i had the same problem and i was told the sensor was sticking. got fixed under warranty and is a common problem apparently

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi does anyone now if this is a straightforward job, and could i replace this myslef. Thanks again.

POST 5Original post

Mine's doing a similar thing so I'd be interested in the responses...assuming you get any!

POST 6Original post

As you look at the engine from the back of the car, it is on the right hand side on the top of the cylinder head about half way back. It is cylindrical in shape, and points vertically upwards and has a connector on top with two wires. There is a photo here: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=20211&view=findpost&p=103947 It's fiddly to get a spanner on, but it's a relatively easy DIY. Might be worth checking the connections to it before changing it though.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for that I'll try that out and let you know how I get on.
