Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

2004 C4S Does anyone know how the orange optical cables are routed from the head unit to the Amp and CD changer? I know that the optical circuit makes a loop, so one side of the optical pair connected at the head unit goes to the Amp and the other goes to the CD changer. But the cable is a bonded pair, so the other end must plug into a splitter some place and I am wondering where that is. I ask because the end of the cable at the head unit is damaged and I need to replace that cable, but don't want to start tearing things apart until I have a better idea where it all goes. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

This is what I got off Google AI, I had wondered myself. On a 2004 Porsche 996 equipped with the MOST fiber optic system (PCM2 or Bose), the MOST optical cable "Y" connector—often referred to as a coupler, bridge, or the point where the telephone module connects to the main loop—is typically located under the passenger seat (for LHD cars). Location: The phone module sits under the seat, and its fiber optic cable connects into the main bus via a "Y" splitter or a connector that allows the phone module to be inserted between the amplifier and the head unit. Alternative Location: If you are bypassing the entire system, the main junction is also found directly behind the radio head unit in the center console. System Loop Order: The loop generally runs from the Head Unit, Amplifier, CD Changer, Telephone Module back to the Head Unit.

I hadnt thought to look under the seat! Thanks for the analysis and good idea to use AI. Ill pursue this line of research further. Cheers
