Sorry to beat a dead horse but I'm not satisfied with these 987
LED
bumper lights because they stick out too far from the bumper (looks like about 1") and that makes them look cheap and not OEM
I also don't like the look of just shoving a LED light bar in the grills because it doesn't look OEM either
So I'm considering swapping out the OEM bulbs with LED bulbs. Might not have a row of LEDs but I'll have the LED color and brightness I'm looking for.
Problem with that is I've been down that road with a 986 a few years ago, bought bulbs that the seller claimed were "very bright" and "10 watt LED" only to get them and they were very dim and put out almost no light, however in photos and videos I took they looked deceptively bright.
Fast forward a few years and LEDs are much better but I'm still afraid, has anyone put modern LEDs in their foglights and they looked bright like regular bulbs?
I did find this thread
http://www.planet-9.com/981-cayman-...981-cayman-boxster-modifications/100761-base-boxster-h7-led-bulb-installed.html
of a 2014 boxster with
6500K
H7 LEDs rated for 2000 lumens using
2x High Power Cree XM 2L SMD
but does not mention wattage
Amazon.com: 2014 All New H7 Ultra Bright LED Headlight Fog Light 4000 Lumen 6500k Cree Xm L2: Automotive
unfortunately that seller, SiriusLED, does not seem to sell the H8 bulbs like that (my 06 uses H8, correct?)
However another seller does sell
6500K
H8 LEDs rated for 2000 lumens using
CREE-XML2 LED for the same price
Amazon.com: Newsun 2014 New Cree 2000lm H8 Led Headlight All in One LED Car Headlight Bulb Xenon White 12v 24v Car Head Lamp Driving Light H8 Led: Automotive
but they're
6500K, which is too blue, right?
Or these 5000k CREE H8 bulbs are rated for 3600 lumens and the reviews are good
Amazon.com: New Brights LED Headlight Conversion Kit - All Bulb Sizes - 50W 3600LM Cree LED - Replaces Halogen & HID Bulbs - H7: Automotive
I've had good luck with Amazon, much better than ebay, should I just buy them and keep my fingers crossed, or has someone on here installed these or something else they recommend?
What are you aiming to achieve?
LED
running lights or functional foglights? A normal H7 bulb outputs about 1300 lumens so you want close to that for functionality. I'm considering the SiriusLED ones you mention but I'm concerned about glare for oncoming traffic.
For my 2006
Boxster S
, I opted for the H8 Höen Xenonmatch bulbs, which can be found here:
Hoen
. I have had them installed for approximately 2.5 years and have not had any problems. They are not LEDs, but they match the OEM Xenon 4300K low beams perfectly.
The only problem is the H7 (low) and H9 (hi) Xenomatch Titanium bulbs seem to be out-of-stock every time I check this site. I see the H8 (fog) are available - I'll try them cause the stock fogs look odd with the Gen-2
LED
running lights. BTW, I installed aftermarket 4300K HID low beams and am very happy. Got mine from The Retrofit Source - installation was easy.
I don't understand why no one makes 4300K-ish
LED lights
for either the day time running lights or foglights.
Why do all
LEDs
have to come in ricey 6000K color ??? My home
LED lights
are at around 4K color from what I could tell, so it's not like
LED
diodes can't do it ...
Left is
Hoen
, right is stock
before with the stock bulbs
after with the Hoen foglight bulbs
As you can see it's not a huge difference, they're more white but they don't look like the headlights. Hoping LEDs will solve that and update the look since every modern vehicle has LEDs
Thanks for posting!!! Yes, although you can still see a bit of yellow, I think those results are acceptable (atleast from your photos).
Those headlights look amazing though! What kind of bulbs are those? ...Looks amazing
Agreed. 5000k would be hardly noticeable on its own.
question now ... Anyone sells 5K color day time running lsights?
thanks
I've been running DDM 35w 4300k HID in my 05 BS fog light housings for nearly 3 years without issues. I removed the metal covers inside the housings to make them even brighter. I run them as DRL at all times. They produce quite a bit of light.
If you find a suitable replacement for the bars, I'd like to purchase the ones you don't like.

I went with a whole new bumper and installed halo
led
’s cause I couldn’t stand the stick fog lights even after I tinted them I decided this look seems way better than stock
