I've changed the head unit (Kenwood DNX8220BT) so the amp is now bypassed, crossovers fitted but still not entirely happy with the sound.

Suggestion

I agree with gilford - great if you could find a 'damaged beyond repair' 996 with Bose for a transplant........

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know the question has been asked before but technology moves on and someone may have something new to suggest. I believe my C4S has the standard speaker setup, basic MOST amp and speakers. I've changed the head unit (Kenwood DNX8220BT) so the amp is now bypassed, crossovers fitted but still not entirely happy with the sound. A colleague has a C4S with Bose and the difference is noticeable, better bass and less tinny sounding. I believe the head unit should have enough grunt so looking for suggestions on improving the speaker setup alone without too much outlay, so would welcome any tips or suggestions?

POST 2Original post

I think my Bose setup in my C4s is superb for standard equipment, especially compared to the M3 I had with Harmon Kardon 8) Maybe get a written off C4s and rip the stereo out?

POST 3Original post

I have '04 C4S with Bose, and last week had CDR-23 replaced with Alpine CDA-9887R head unit plus bluetooth module and new amp. iPod now permanently in glove box, all controlled from head unit, and the phone set-up works great. Rear Bose sub now controlled separately from head unit too. They did the Audyssey Imprint EQ / sound calibration, and I have to say, the system sounds fantastic now......! :thumb: I agree with gilford - great if you could find a 'damaged beyond repair' 996 with Bose for a transplant........

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Coincidentally I've seen for sale a rear shelf complete with the Bose speakers. Now I know this is only part of the kit, but I figure that with some crossovers and some better speakers in the doors then I'll improve the sound considerably. Any opinions, anything I've missed?

POST 5Original post

just upgraded my speakers and head unit to an Alpine head unit (for ipods) with jl audio xr650-csi component system, the sound is fantastic. it gives you the full bass and clarity i think your after. i am sure JL will do sizes that will fit a 996. even without an amp in my noisy car they are great!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers, some useful avenues to look at. I've also asked the guys who fitted my head unit to come up with some suggestions. I have managed to lay my hands on a parcel shelf complete with Bose speakers so I'm factoring in getting that integrated into the final solution. I'm assuming the speakers will be more than adequate, at the very least it provides a neat solution for the speaker housing.
