Meet the
Soul Performance Products Competition Suite
for 987.1 Cayman / Boxster - performance components built by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts.
DEVELOPMENT:
We have had ample time around many exhaust configurations for the 987.1 and set out to build the ideal setup for enthusiasts. We decided on this design as it offers an incredible sound when you have the pedal down, but it is VERY refined when driving around town. The Soul mufflers practically eliminate droning – even with aftermarket catless headers the sound is reserved during partial throttle! No valves necessary – we are confident that our system is a solid option for those who like it loud when it’s appropriate but reserved around town. Expect no check engine lights
CONSTRUCTION:
Each system is made from mandrel bent T304L stainless steel tubing and features mufflers with fortified casings in the interest of durability. Choose from three attractive 3.5” tip options - or we can even build you a custom set to meet your needs.
Our precision engineered headers are meticulously fabricated from T304L stainless steel. Proven design elements including port matched flanges, smooth radius primary tubing, and collectors that optimize the exhaust flow all work in conjunction to maximize power gains. Every set is rigorously quality-checked prior to shipping.
POWER:
The 2006 Cayman S was advertised as making 276 crank horsepower from the factory, which translates to around / under 250 wheel horsepower. During testing on a Dynojet dynamometer at Eurocharged Cincinnati, a Competition Package equipped vehicle put down an average of 286 wheel hp and 244 ft-lbs of torque, with the strongest run being 291 whp and 250 ft-lbs of torque.
BOLT ON AND GO:
Each product is tested in a fixture to ensure perfect fitment. Thorough installation instructions are included in the box for a straightforward install that can be performed by most DIY enthusiasts.
LIFETIME WARRANTY:
Enjoy your Soul exhaust components with confidence on both the street and track as they are covered by our Lifetime Warranty! Our team will quickly work with you to resolve any issues that you may have.

Soul
,
Could/would you build a 200 cell cat model of your
headers
for
987.1
S cars. Specifically, I would like to see a 24 inch long tube header attached to a 200 cell cat, that I could connect to an aftermarket catless muffler, in my case a Milltec product. I have only found competition
headers
in your listing for my car model while
987.2
has a cat header.
I would think that
987.1
has 5 times as many cars on the road as
987.2
and rates this build. There are numerous enthusiastic
987.1
owners who do not necessarily track their cars, but use them on the street as either a daily driver or for sport. This type of header would give them little more mid range HP and torque.
I know there are exemption forms that I could use to get around the state DEQ requirement if I installed your
headers
without cats, but that process is very involved in the state of Washington.
Thanks, I would think you could sell quite a few of these long tube
headers
, especially if they are longer than the competitions and look great in the under car shot. Maybe 20 inches would be more realistic for
headers
, knowing they flow into the cat. Do you also offer different coatings, as some are gold and others sort of silver?
Please let me know if you intend to pursue manufacturing this product or do you need a test vehicle. I would volunteer my car through a local speed shop if that would help for a
987.1
3.4 motor. Not sure about doing before and after dyno tests though. Its a pain to get my car to Cantrell Motor Sports in Bellevue. Maybe I could do a
Cobb
tune at the same time to add crackle into the down shift cycle and add some mid range torque.
We have to manage pricing vs performance for the
987.1
We're exploring our options for runners and catalytic converters and will getting into development in the distant future. We do not offer coatings - we leave that up to the customer to decide what they think is best - it's best to go direct there. We have a local vehicle that we can use for development when the time comes. Unfortunately
COBB
does not support the
987.1
models.
I feel like I need to provide another update.
I have the full
exhaust
(long tube
headers
+ mufflers) and as reported in other threads, my car came Alive after this upgrade. I have stock intake, TB and even OEM Air filter and yet the car was transformed after this upgrade.
A big jump in low end TQ, mid range. I never had PSM interfere on exits of corners until I added the
exhaust
. I didn't need to take the car for a dyne run to feel the change in HP.
A week ago I added a Tune to the car, The tune company's claim of HP/TQ addition are similar to what
Soul
Performance claims I got with
headers
/mufflers. Well, life is full of lessons learned because those claimed ponies never showed up. I am sure the car is technically making more HP/TQ than it was before tune. But there change is absolutely not nearly as much as I got from the
Exhaust
system (especially
Headers
)
We hit the road and installed our
Performance Exhaust
on a customers car while it was waiting for new parts during a full service detail at Oakes Detail!

Do you recommend Titanium heat tape wrap to increase internal temp and reduce outside temperature on your competition
headers
all the way to the rear muffler, especailly around 997 turbo brake cooling ducts installed on 987 on the thrust arm to cool the rear brakes. Also, is it possible to install the competition
headers
and then add a 100 cell cat just before the muffler with the Titanium tape all the way to the cat. Is there a reason the cat needs to be closer to the motor if the pipe is wrapped?
I plan on having two different brake cooling ducts in the rear, the 997 Turbo on the rear thrust arm and a GT2 duct banded to the lower control arm. One is in front of the brake and the other is in the rear of the brake. The reason is the that
987.1
do not have a PSM defeat to turn off the rear brake stability during trail braking, so they work a lot harder than they should and get very hot.
Ceramic coating
/ heat wrap is like you said a great way to keep heat in, which in turn increases
exhaust
velocity while prolonging the life of components near the
exhaust
. The further back you place a
catalytic converter
from the engine the less efficient the catalytic converters will be for emissions purposes - you want the cats hot and at optimal operating temperature for effective catalyzing to take place. Given you are adding cooling components and discussing trailing braking will your car be primarily seeing track use? Any reasons for the cats as you could disable any CEL's with a tune?
-Mike S
I need the cat's to pass the State of Washingtion DEQ air quality requirements first try. This means that I do not want to go to a repair shop and get a waiver after paying the shop for $150. of supposed tune up to get the car closer to passing the test. My car would be fully warmed up when I pull into the test facility. The
987.2
have two sets of these cats, one set is in the muffler, correct. So how far downstream from the
exhaust
port should the single 200 cell cat be positioned with the engine
o2 sensor
's. Im just wondering if I could get a one off by using your competition
headers
and a local muffler shop to install the
headers
, cats, and wrap the entire system in titanium weave wrap.
The
987.1
exhaust
has catalytic converters in it - the
987.2
does not. I can't advise on the success of the downstream catalytic converters as we have not tried it - giving you a suggestion without data doesn't help and I don't make false promises. Dundon has done something similar with the
GT3
but the total
exhaust
path is shorter. The choice of
catalytic converter
also plays a big role. Cheap 100 cell cats won't work as well as say the HJS HD 200 cell cats. Have you considered just swapping the
headers
out for inspection when the time comes?
-Mike S
Not quite the same as changing to race
tires
. If I have a lift in my garage, I would think about it as long as the pipe connection is the same exact size in length and width between the header and the
exhaust
pipe. I suppose I could do it. I could then wrap both sets of
headers
with titanium wrap as well as the length of the
exhaust
pipe to my Milltec stainless muffler. Do you know if your
headers
are exactly the same size and length as the OEM part with the cat? What about the
O2 sensor
on the race
headers
? I do not want any codes showing up requiring a software package delete. Let me know.
If you remove / move the factory catalysts you will almost certainly get a check engine light due to "catalyst inefficiency". You have around a 75% chance of success of not having a check engine light by using our
catted O2 spacers
. With these the O2 sensors will still receive scrubbed exhaust gasses. Our headers bolt in to the same exact locations at factory in regards to length.
I recently had Super Sprint Race
headers
installed and now the check engine light is on.
I am interested to try these Catted
O2 spacers
.
My only concern is would they fit since the space is pretty tight around those
headers
.
Hello.
Kindly allow me to jump in to this thread. Just had
Soul headers
installed on my
2008 Cayman S
Sport by Holt Motorsports.
I am very satisfied. This little
Porsche
really moves now. Throttle response is excellent down low.
Best I can compare it to is this...
I owned a 997
GT3
for four years; and now we refer to the
Cayman S
with
Soul
as "the junior varsity
GT3
". The car flat out flies now, it's a little rocket.
Will be taking to track in April and can report back.
Glad to hear you are satisfied! We can't wait to hear your track feedback!
The Stradman just gifted
our full exhaust suite
to Clayton at Summit Auto Lab! We're looking forward to a full install video very shortly.
-Mike S
I can vouch for the excellence in build, installation and effect of the
Soul
Performance Long Tube Street
headers
with HJS 200 cell cats on my
987.2
already fitted with a
Carnewal GT exhaust
mod. I had the
headers
installed along with an IPD Competition Plenum and
GT3
TB - the effect at the track this past weekend (first time out after install) was dramatic both in terms of sound and performance. I drove about an hour to the track and can state that I get ZERO drone from this set up. At highway speeds, the engine sound is barely discernible over the tire noise on our crappy roads. Blip the gas pedal and you know immediately by both the sound and acceleration that there is an engine behind you. On the track, the sound was pure, flat six sweetness with growls on accelerations, pops and rasps when I lifted off the pedal. Power response was likewise impressive - the car is quicker, faster and with all hesitation gone at all
points
of the RPM curve. Here's a sadly too short video of the car during a threshold braking exercise. We tracked in the PM but I did not get any video (my buddy, tracking his Rolls Royce Wraith, was in the same group as I).
Thank you very much for the kind words! I'm going to share this video on our social media today - let me know if you would like to be tagged! Cheers to your buddy rolling his Rolls onto the track!
-Mike
No worries sharing the video.....here's the Roller....waiting to lead our group out onto the track. Despite it's 2.5 tonne weight, it's pretty impressive. That enormous V12 doesn't hurt either...
Just taking a peak inside a few boxes that came to me last week. These are destined for my
Boxster
once the engine replacement is completed.

And look how nice these tips are:
There's also a 3rd box in the set - exhausts + O2 spacers. Thanks Soul PP!
